The CDC is underpinned by 14 principles that provide a commercial framework for the sustainable use of personal data

#1 Ownership & co ownership: Data must be respected as peoples owned or co-owned property

#2 Access & Portability: People must be able to access their data and freely move it to 3rd party platforms

#3 Control: People must be able to control who can access and use their data

#4 Consent: Consent is required before data is transferred to 3rd parties or used for new purposes

#5 Value: The value of people's data must be acknowledged and determined objectively or by market forces

#6 Fair reward - People must be fairly rewarded for sharing their data

#7 Transparency & Notification: Companies must be transparent and notify people on changes with their Data's use

#8 Fair and lawful processing: Data must be processed in accordance with people's rights - non discriminatorily

#9 Privacy - Companies must be respectful of peoples' privacy, anonymity and pseudonymity - No re-identification.

#10 Secure and protected - Companies must protect and securely manage people's data that they collect

#11 Purposeful - Data must be obtained for declared and lawful purposes only.

#12 Contextual - Data collection must be adequate, relevant and not excessive for the declared purpose of collection.

#13 Accurate - Data must be accurate and people must have the ability to correct it and bring it up to date.

#14 Finite Retention - Data must not be kept any longer than necessary and must be removed and deleted on request.

Clean Data use will become a key Environmental Social Governance (ESG) sustainability issue and growth driver for enterprises going forward.
