Fifth Graders Graduate from B.A.S.E. Program
Maud Elementary fifth graders again this year participated in the B.A.S.E. program presented by Officer Eugene Swift of the Bowie County Sheriff’s Department. B.A.S.E. stands for Basic Awareness Safety Education. For seven weeks, the students learned about the damages of drug and alcohol use, school violence, and bullying. They also learned about Internet safety, fire safety, gun safety, and what to do in case they become lost (search and rescue). Students had to complete a fire escape plan and write an essay describing what they learned in B.A.S. E., and how they will apply it to their own lives.
BASE graduation was held Thursday, April 24, in the elementary cafeteria. Awards were presented for best fire escape plans and best essays. Each student also received a graduation certificate. Sheriff James Prince spoke to the students about the importance of staying off drugs and the importance of using the information they learned in BASE. Officer Swift then treated the kids to a pizza party at the First Baptist Church gym.
Student Council to Sponsor Blood Drive The Student Council will sponsor the last blood drive of this school year on Tuesday, May 27, from 8:00 a.m. until
3:00 p.m. in the Middle School Big Room. Forty-five units must be donated in order for one Maud 2014 senior to be
eligible for the LifeShare Scholarship. Every donor will receive a free t-shirt! You may schedule a time to donate by
emailing Amanda Brower at abrower@maudisd.net. Walk-ins are also welcome, so stop by at your convenience the
day of the blood drive!

Elementary Homeroom Requests Elementary Parents:
If you wish to request a home room teacher for your Pre-K—5th grade student for the 2014-2015 school year, please submit that request in writing to the elementary office by the last day of school (June 5). Requests made after that date may not be honored since class rosters will be developed during the summer.
