Media experts predict the newspaper in its current form to be obsolete within the next century.

Radio 1866 – Mahlon Loomis provided the first

wireless communication known as a radio in Washington, DC.

1895 – Italian Guglielmo Marconi sent the first radio signal.

The first radio was used for navigation.

Television 1884 – Paul Nipkow discovered how to

move pictures using electronic signals in Berlin.

1920 – Britain and the U.S. experimented with this discovery

1941 – CBS was created and began broadcasting to a small audience.

Cable Television 1948 – Created in the mountains of

Pennsylvania by John and Margaret Walson because they wanted to receive Philadelphia network stations more clearly. The Walsons began Service Electric Cable TV in Allentown. It continues to this day.

Known as CATV (Community Antenna Television)

Satellite Television 1962 – The first satellite television signal

was relayed to the Telstar satellite from Europe to the United States.

1967 – The first national network of satellite television was created in the Soviet Union.

Internet 1969 – In response to the launch of

Sputnik the United States made ARPA in order to focus on computer networking and communication.

1980s – Privately-run internet service providers were created.

1990s – Internet becomes more popular and mainstream.

Pagers 1921 – The first pager-like system was

used by the Detroit Police Department 1949 – The first telephone pager was

patented by Al Gross in New York By 1980, there were 3.2 million pagers worldwide 1994 – over 61 million pagers in use

DVD “Digital Video Disc” 1995 – The first DVD was announced in

Japan 1996 – The first DVD was finalized in

Japan DVD’s were available in March of 1997 in

the United States and by 1999 they were all over the world

Cell Phone 1973 – Dr. Martin Cooper invented the

first portable handset in New York at Motorola

1977 – Public cell phone testing began Over 60 million customers own cell

phones today

iPad Announced on Jan. 17, 2010 by Apple in

the US. Apple began taking pre-orders in March

of 2010 Went on sale in April 2010 in the United

States.

iTouch Launched Sept. 5, 2007 in the US 2000 – Tony Fadell, a student at the

University of Michigan, envisioned a better type of MP3 player and pitched it to Real Networks where it was denied

Fadell then turned to Apple where they invented his idea
