OntarioBreastScreeningProgram(OBSP)locationsonHamiltonMountainconsolidate

CIBCBreastAssessmentCentre’sOBSPwelcomeswomenwithnosignsofbreastcancerforroutinebreastscreening

(HAMILTON,ON--Nov.10,2016)HamiltonMountain’stwoOntarioBreastScreeningProgram(OBSP)sitesareconsolidatingasofNov.21,withChedokeOBSPstaffandequipmentmovingtothestate-of-the-artCIBCBreastAssessmentCentrelocatedattheJuravinskiHospitalandCancerCentre.“ThisconsolidationmeansthatformerChedokeclients,alongwithanyeligibleHamiltonareawomen,cannowhavetheirroutinebreastscreeningdoneatoneofthemostadvancedassessmentcentresofitskindinCanada,”saidRegionalCancerProgramDirectorCarolRand.“FormerChedokeclientswillseethesamefriendly,familiarfacesatthenewlocation.Andshouldaclienthaveanabnormalscreeningresult,they’llbefamiliarwiththeCIBCBreastAssessmentCentre,whichoffersleading-edgecareinthediagnosisofbreastcancerwhilealsoreducingtheneedformultipleappointmentsandminimizingthetimespentwaitingfortestresults.”TheCIBCBreastAssessmentCentreopenedin2014,offeringcomprehensive,multi-disciplinaryandleading-edgecareinthediagnosisofbreastcancer.Italsoactsasaregionalresourceforwomenathighriskofdevelopingbreastcancer.TheOBSPisaprovincialprogramofferingfree,high-qualitymammogramstoOntariowomenaged50to74withnosignsofbreastcancer.It’srecommendedthatthesewomengetamammogrameverytwoyearsaspartoftheirroutinemedicalcare,sinceearlydetectionthroughmammographycanresultinsignificanthealthbenefitsincludingincreasedtreatmentoptionsandbettersurvivalrates.HealthcareprofessionalsrecommendthatwomenhavebreastscreeningdonethroughtheOBSP,whichmustmeetstandardsincludingaccreditationbytheCanadianAssociationofRadiologistsandwell-developedqualityassuranceactivities. TheCIBCBreastAssessmentCentre’sOBSPisopenMondaytoFriday,8a.m.to5p.m.andeverysecondSaturdayfrom8a.m.to4p.m.“Wemayextendhoursevenfurther,basedondemand,”saidRand.“We’recommittedtomakingroutinebreastscreeningaseasyandconvenientaspossible.”

ParkingisavailableatnearbyhospitalgaragesonConcessionandPoplarStreets.MeteredstreetparkingisalsoavailableandtheHamiltonStreetRailway(HSR)busservicestopsatthehospital.TheCIBCBreastAssessmentCentrealsooffersconvenientdropoffandpickupforclientsatitsfrontdoors.
