PROJECT: The Art Building on campus needed an 11” x 11” modern and sleek light fixture to fit into square indentation on the ceilings. This design was to blend cohesively with the current aesthetic of the building. The ability to manufacture this piece was a consideration, as well as how much it would cost to produce. The design was to update but not distract from the space itself. After several design sketches, an Art Deco inspired theme led to this random yet repetitive design. The light fixture is composed of one single piece with slits, cuts, and folds at the right places in order to create the fixture.

PROJECT: In addition to upgraded light fixtures, window screens were designed to give the Art Gallery more privacy, protection from the sun, and a more sophisticated feel. The art Deco theme continues, correlating with the light fixture that was designed for the space. The random, yet repetitive nature of the fixture was chosen to be mirrored within the screens. Partitions within the gallery space were also implemented to provide more space for display.

PROJECT: This metal barn began as a warehouse and was requested to be converted into a residence with an attached photography studio. This house utilizes an open floorplan, for easy access between kitchen, living and dining. The main feature of this design is the roll up glass door that opens the living room to the front porch area entirely.

PROJECT: The entire kitchen was demolished so the floorplan could be rethought entirely. Measurements were taken on job site and used to produce technical drawings. The client was updated throughout the project after each new development. Meetings with client ensured that all details were met and accounted for within the design.

PROJECT: A law firm based in Japan requested a remodel for their new location in Dallas, Texas. The office was place on the 43rd floor in a corner space, with windows facing northwest, and southwest. The client requested a small variance in furniture selection and materials for a cohesive deign that blends throughout the entire space.

PROJECT: Students were to use the floorplan provided to design a space that utilizes a strong concept and implements it into an educational environment. NEXT required In-Between learning zones for group studying a Faculty Connection Hub, Active Learning Classrooms and a Work Cafe. The space was to utilize Steelcase furniture and accessories to show the versatility and functionality of what Steelcase has to offer. The project was continued after submittal until full construction drawings were completed.
CONCEPT: “Trees are nature’s own piece of architecture, influencing design, construction, supplying materials, and inspiring architects with its natural form. Using trees, we have created paper, and eventually books, which have been used to catalogue and record knowledge for centuries. Giving homage to trees and the impact they have had, NEXT will emulate the feelings found in nature among trees that have been undisturbed. Inspired by the angular, geographic, yet unsystematic shapes created by the tree and its limbs, NEXT will imitate feelings of calm and relaxation, similar to a nearby forest. Fueled by rectilinear shapes, the space is created with a modern-lined, but effortless flow from one zone to the next. Spaces are accented with shapes, patterns, and textures inspired by trees in order to simulate a fresh and relaxing environment. The user should feel the soothing affects of a forest when entering the space, with furniture arrangement, floorplan, and finishes chosen. Using the colors found on a tree during the seasons of the year, color ways will range from relaxing and tranquil to energizing and stimulating. By utilizing the tree’s texture, color, silhouette, shape and form, NEXT should act as a peaceful place for users to learn and connect.”
