When you read this, the Middleridge
Neighborhood Night Out will be
behind us. A BIG THANK YOU
goes out once again to Gretchen and
David Bulova. These two folks have
done a wonderful job of running this
event for the last 6 years and have
done a great job of presenting one of
the premier annual events of the
Middleridge Civic Association. They
would like very much to share that
opportunity with someone so if you
feel the inclination, please contact a
Board member and let them know
you are interested.
Our new signs are taking a bit longer
than anticipated. The manufacturer
has had some difficulties but we hope
to see the new signs in the next few
weeks. It will be a nice change from
the old ones and we’re sure you’ll
appreciate the new look. It will
provide some similarity to the
welcome signs at our entrances.
The traffic calming tables have now
both been installed and hopefully
they will serve to slow traffic on
Paynes Church and Broadwater
Drives. Both of these streets have
had some pretty fast cars travel them
in the past and we look forward to
having these devices slow them
down.
Kudos to Tony and Sarah Jimenez
who took a chance and helped a lost
stranger from out of town find her
way to a relative in the area. In
today’s often uncertain world, we
tend to ignore a potential needy
person because of the dangers that
sometime befall such good
Samaritans. Thanks Tony and Sarah
for taking a chance and helping out!!
It is membership time once again.
Look for your application and
consider sending it in as soon as you
receive it. We find that quite a few
folks forget about them if they don’t
take care of them immediately. Since
we just spent a fair amount of our
money on the new signs, we hope
most of our neighbors will consider
joining the association to help MCA
provide you with many of the benefits
that you receive from membership.
Thanks for your consideration.
Have a great month! Enjoy
the great weather!!
WELCOME NEW SECTION
LEADER AND BLOCK
CAPTAIN Steven Tuchrello is going to take over
as the Section Leader for Section B.
His sister Rachel has done a terrific
job the past few years and is now
heading off to college. Thanks to
Rachel for a job well done and
welcome to Steven.
Roberta Comack-Katleman is going
to be the new Block Captain for
Rumsey Place. Thanks to Peggy
Deihr for stepping up and being your
block captain when one was needed.
Thanks to both Peggy and Roberta.

Membership Drive Starts
Every year at this time, starting with the National Night Out celebration at
Middleridge Park, the Middleridge Civic Association begins its annual
Membership Drive.
In the past there has been some confusion about this drive. My question has been,
when does it end? With my involvement in the Association this past year, I have
been enlightened: It never ends!
This though, is not a bad thing, as the Association is much like a child or animal –
it never stops, either, it just goes on and on, changing and adding, and we must
respond to its needs.
In the past year, I have been aware of at least three occasions where individuals
have registered as members based in part on their desire to place an ad or to input
something into the newsletter. The ad rates (printed to the left of this page)
provide a rather substantial discount to association members. All 3 of these
individuals joined the association to obtain the discounted rates, and seem pleased
not only with the responses to their ads, but to being members.
Previously there were questions about what the money went towards – this year,
that answer has been fully answered with the development of the new entrance
signs. Now if only the contractor would deliver, we would all see the change!
If you haven’t yet returned your forms for membership with your dues,
please take this moment to go on ahead and do so. You will become a
member of a very large and substantial organization. Welcome!

Thank you to all the bighearted people of Middleridge who donated sneakers for the children of the Liberia Orphan Education Project. Many pairs of used and new sneakers were dropped off at our home over the last few weeks. The kindness and spirit of giving of our community is what makes Middleridge so unique and a great place to live. The children will really benefit from your help and generosity. THANK YOU! ---- Helene and John Valenti
Dear Middleridge Neighbors,
My husband Curtiss and I always knew that Middleridge was full of caring, supportive families that help
each other. In this regard, I would like to express to all of you our deep appreciation for helping us to find
our missing kitty cat, Ringo! He is home!
After our "LOST" message was posted in the newsletter and on the website, we received many calls from
our Middleridge neighbors to let us know that they had seen Ringo (or cats that looked very much like
Ringo). Several families graciously permitted us to place a humane trap in their yards in our effort to
bring Ringo home. Finally, two months later, this morning we found Ringo in the humane trap two doors
down from where we live.
Needless to say, we are elated that Ringo is home. Equally important, we are happy and proud to be
Middleridge residents. This is a community that cares about its residents, as evidenced by the calls and
help that we received.
Thank you all again very much. We could not have found Ringo without you. If we can ever help any of
you in any way, please call on us. We want to perform a good deed for someone else, as you were so kind
to perform one for us.
Sincerely,
Jeanine Piller
Middleridge's own Sarah Mayhew was profiled in the fall issue of PARTAKES magazine (p. 16) as a
volunteer for the Fairfax County Parks Invasive Management Area (IMA) program.
Read this Volunteer Profile of Sarah and consider joining her as an IMA program volunteer.
Congratulations Sarah!!

July Executive Board Meeting – July 5, 2007
The meeting of the Executive Board of Middleridge Civic Association was called to order by Al Obuchowski at 7:40 PM at the home of Catie Morales. In attendance were Al Obuchowski, President, Catie Morales, Vice President, Al Melanson, Treasurer, Mary Vander Maten, Secretary, Paul Armstrong, Webmaster, Sandy Obuchowski, Newsletter Distributor, and Steve Morales, Entrance Sign Committee member.
Al Obuchowski opened with a comment about 4th of July flags and the possibility of the Civic Association putting flags out next year.
Minutes: Minutes from the June Board meeting were approved as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Al Melanson presented the treasurer’s report. We discussed financing scholarships and cost of entrance signs. Al said that “Milly’s House” will be advertising in the Newsletter. Milly’s House is a home for elderly residents in our neighborhood. The treasurer’s report was approved as presented.
Committee Reports
Entrance Sign: Al Melanson reported that the sign company is running a bit behind schedule. The signs are scheduled to be delivered July 20.
Dinner with the Firemen: The June 30 meal went very well, and we have reports that the firemen gave the children a royal treatment. The next meal will go to the volunteer fire department.
National Night Out: We are grateful to Gretchen and David Bulova for organizing this year’s NNO.
Membership for 2007-2008: We are planning a meeting for the section leaders and block captains. Membership forms will be available at the National Night Out.
Traffic Calming: The traffic table on Broadwater has not been installed. Al Obuchowski will call to find out why it has been delayed.
October General Membership Meeting: We have had several political candidates request an audience. We will decide the format at our August meeting.
September Yard Sale: Catie will begin work on advertising for the yard sale. We encourage each person heading up an activity to publicize it in a) the newsletter, b) the web site, and c) signage.
.
.
The next board meeting will be on Thursday, August 30 at 7:30 PM,
at the home of Al Melanson. All members are invited to attend. Please
call a Board member in advance to indicate your intent to attend.
