Albeit background check is becoming more common for everyone, still many job hunters have countless misconceptions

about it.

There are some misconceptions about background check that you should know before appearing for any job

interview.

Myth :----Background checks solely look for criminal history.

When an employer runs a background check, it not only includes criminal history but also credit history, driving record,

civil history etc. within the bundle.

Most of the employers take a maximum time limit to verify educational background, job history, other professional

licenses etc. and also a drug test if required.

Employers are only checking if resume is incorrect :- An employer

always looks for a different alternative like financial stability, civil

and social behavior as a whole.

Myth :----All background check companies deliver the same information.

It's a total lie and all the information varies as per employer demands.

But as per FCRA, every employer must follow some criteria before running any screening and they should use a certain

standard for submitting the details.

If the standard doesn't match, the employer will get a lawsuit or bad hire consequences afterwards.

An employer always makes sure to conduct the screening process which includes the importance of you and his staffing

needs.

Myth :- Employers are looking for a reason to not hire.

Many candidates believe that employers just run screening to not to hire that candidates.

This is never the case and employers run the screening to know whether they are hiring the right candidate what

mentioned in resume or not.

Myth :-- Criminal record automatically means no hire

This myth is believed by both employer and candidates.

As per FCRA, there are some factors needed to take into consideration while hiring a candidate with criminal

background.

Myth : Only large companies run background checks.

When a small scale company ignores screening, they are ultimately at high risk of bad hire or lawsuit.

A small background check can save a lot of time and money of the small companies that get wasted in lawsuit.

Myth :-- As a job seeker, you are powerless. Some candidates believe they are helpless in front of employer regrading the background check process.

But the case is exactly opposite-- an employer must receive a sign of the candidate before any proceeding of screening.

If the employer doesn't want to hire you due to the findings of screening, then they should give you the cause in written

statement.

If there's something wrong in the report, then you should contact the agency to correct it and give a proper report to

the employer also.

Myth :-- If I have never committed a crime then I shouldn't be worry about it.

The reality is if you have a identical surname or name, then it could trigger the flag of identity theft and misleading criminal

statements.

Make sure to be in safe zone before anything happens like this.
