BPA (BISPHENOL-A)

PLASTICS

➤ Most people are aware of BPA these days…

➤ BPA is not used in ALL plastics, but it’s behavior is representative of how plastics behave

➤ Molecules of chemicals in plastics are not tightly bound, and easily “shed”

PLASTICS

➤ FOUR things that increase the rate at which those chemicals leach or migrate out of plastics:

➤ HEAT (microwaving, hot water washing, dishwasher, hot food, sunlight)

➤ ABRASION (scrubbing, dishwasher, hard foods)

➤ ACIDITY (citrus, tomato, vinegar, etc.)

➤ OIL (oily or high fat foods)

PLASTICS

Ever had or seen one of these?

PLASTICS

➤ Perfect storm of heat, oil & acidity!

➤ Barrier between where the plastic ends and sauce begins is blurred

➤ Sauce migrates INTO the plastic, and plastic migrates INTO the sauce

PLASTICS

➤ Many chemicals that migrate out of plastics are ENDOCRINE DISRUPTING

➤ BPA:

➤ synthesized in 1891

➤ used in plastics since 1950’s

➤ is a synthetic estrogen, capable of blocking or mimicking natural estrogen in the body

➤ BPA is linked to:

➤ heart disease

➤ metabolic disorders (diabetes, insulin resistance, obesity)

➤ childhood asthma

➤ breast cancer

➤ male birth defects

➤ low birth weight

➤ If ALL plastics leach estrogenic activity, what does this mean?

➤ It means that we REDUCE the use of plastics in the kitchen, where they have direct food contact

Choose glass & stainless steel water bottles instead of plastic!

WE WANT OUR CLIENTS TO

REALLY HEAR US

In order to reach your client, it’s often important to create a

BRIDGE OF RELATE-ABILITY

Now that you’re making all this great food and you’re setting yourself up with meals on hand – what are you using to store all those leftovers in?

© Lara Adler, LLC - Tools For Teaching Toxicity

Here’s why I’m asking; I want all this effort you’re making to really pay off for you. I don’t want anything to negate or undo all your hard work. The plastic food containers that you have at home now aren’t supportive of either your short term or long term goals.

In fact, the plastics that you’re using can be partly responsible for your ________ condition, so I’d love to shift the conversation so that we can make sure we have all bases covered for you!

Other ways to introduce the “plastics” conversation:

➤ During kitchen or pantry “makeovers”

➤ During any Detox or Cleanse program
