Learning IntentionsWe are learning to identify, classify, compare and measure angles. We are learning to use a protractor to draw and measure an angle. We are learning to Identify, order and sort angles by sizeWe are learning to estimate and measure angles using a protractor

Success Criteria

I will be able to:

• identify, draw and classify a right angle.• identify angles in everyday situations.• measure angles using a protractor.

Monday Introduction Write your answers down

What is an Angle? Write down as many facts below as you can remember about Angles.

Once have finished writing down the facts watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JSk0DC5q4g

Look at the pictures on the right, of different angle types, and the angle descriptions below:

An acute angle is less than 90°

A right angle equals 90°

An obtuse angle is between 90° and 180°.

A straight angle equals 180°.

A reflex angle is between 180° and 360°.

Learning Intention

We are learning to identify, classify, compare and measure angles in our everyday life.

Monday

Monday activity – All groups

Part 1: Comparing angles to right anglesTask: To find and take photos of different angles you can find around your house and outside.

Steps:1. Take photos of different angles you can find (greater than,

smaller than and equal to right angles)2. Use an application to draw over the angle (on the

computer you can use Paint, iPad you can use lets draw, Notes or other drawing apps or you can print and draw on them)

Classify the angles as greater than, equal to or smaller than a right angle.

Bonus Points if you can find one example of each a right angle, straight angle, reflex angle and obtuse angle.

Tuesday Introduction

Click on the picture above and watch the presentation on how to use a protractor correctly.

Tuesday – Measuring Angles

Create your own protractor by printing the one below or drawing one on a piece of paper.

Tuesday Activities

Purple group write down what type of angle you think each picture is.

Blue group – write down what type of angle you think each picture is and estimate how many degrees you think it is.

Red group -write down what type of angle you think each picture is and estimate how many degrees you think it is. Check your answers with your homemade protractor.

Wednesday IntroductionStudy Ladder

Log into Study Ladder and complete the assigned Angles in week 5 PODS. Once you have finished the Angles POD please make sure you have completed the subtraction and shape pods as

well.

Thursday– Estimating and Measuring AnglesLearning intention -We are learning to use a protractor to draw and measure an angle. We are learning to estimate and measure angles using a protractor

All Groups are to complete the warm up game on the below link

http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks2numeracy-tools.html#angle

Choose the top activity named Angles.

You may need to enable the flash player to access the game. Click yes when asked.

Thursday- activities- Draw each of these angles using your protractor.

RED: Draw each of the angles then estimate what size the angle is. Check your answers with your protractor.

Friday Activity Common Assessment Task –Students will draw and label angles.

Acute, Right, Obtuse and Straight Angles

Friday Activity - Common Assessment TaskPick 1 activity: Both activities are to be drawn:Name or Robot What's in a Name? -

This one is another great activity. I would like you to use grid

paper on the next slide for this activity, but it's not

necessary. Students write their names in block letters (all

straight lines) on the paper.

Then, using a protractor, have the students measure all the

angles they can find in their names.
