MULYAN PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
Principal’s Report :
Well, the weather certainly took a turn for the worst over the weekend! As we move rather too quickly into the cooler season, it is important that the children are well rugged up against the elements. Our school winter uniform is ideal for this and when teamed with a school beanie, which can be obtained from Mr Embroidery, will help to keep each child as healthy as they can be. Also, if your child does have a cold or flu-like symptoms, it would be helpful if they did not attend school to avoid the risk of infecting others. Hopefully, we can get through this part of the year with a minimum of lost days.
Next week, all our Year 3 and Year 5 students will take part in the Australia wide NAPLAN (National Assessment Program for Literary and Numeracy). The assessment will commence on Tuesday, 13th May with Language Conventions & Writing , Wednesday, 14th May
Reading and Thursday, 15th May Numeracy. Then on Friday, 16th May any assessments that were not done due to absences can be caught up with. Best wished to all our boys and girls and please remember that the results from these assessments will give us a snapshot of how the children are performing at this moment in their schooling.
As mentioned previously, this month is a busy month for sport participation with a lot of knockout games to take place along with our Cross Country and Athletics carnivals. We have already had our boys hockey team take part in their first round game against Parkes. They were unfortunately beaten but gave a very good account of themselves, particularly as most of the boys had never played hockey and this game was on artificial turf field.
Coming up, we have our boys soccer team playing against Canowindra Public today and tomorrow, our girls netball team travel to Dubbo to take part in the regional knockout day. Good luck to both teams.
On Friday, 16th May we will be holding the School Primary Cross Country Carnival at Edgell Park and then on Wednesday, 21st May, our Primary Athletics Carnival will take place at Twigg Oval. We hope to see many parents and supporters at these events.
Congratulations to Tristian Reid who was selected in the Western Australian Rules team and Brayden Turner who was selected in the Western Region Rugby League team last term. Tristian will compete in the State Carnival in North Western Sydney later this term and Brayden will travel to Kingscliff for the State Rugby League Carnival also later this term. Good luck to both boys!
As well as lots of sporting events, we also have a couple of lovely cultural events this week. Yesterday, all our students were able to listen to a group of musicians from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music perform a concert with brass instruments. It was wonderful for our boys and girls to be able to hear performers of this calibre. Then today, our Year 3-6 students travelled to the Civic Centre to watch Cowra High School students perform a matinee performance of their Musical - “Reality: a Musical Exploitation”
We feel that it is important that our students are exposed to a wide range of cultural events such as these to help broaden their interest and their minds.
It is important that students attend school every day that they are able to. When a child is not at school, particularly if it is for a reasonable period of time, they quite often miss concepts and find it difficult to catch up. Please try and ensure that your child attends school every day that they are able to. If they are absent, by law, the school does need to note this and record the reason why. Please ensure that your child’s teacher is notified as soon as possible after your child returns to school the reason for your child’s absence, preferably in writing.
Sometimes, students do need to be away from school for perfectly sound reasons such as medical appointments, family holidays etc and “Exemption” can be granted in these circumstances. If you know your child will be absent before the date quite often these exemptions can be granted. Please contact the office for details of what needs to be done.
Till next fortnight,
John Smith
