Main Points!

• As well as the front cover you also need to evaluate how your contents page and article use or develop magazine conventions.

• Refer back to your initial analysis of magazine covers and content pages

Key Questions!• Is the colour scheme and font styles (house style)

consistent across the front cover, contents page and article?

• How have you used colour, font size, and columns to organise the contents on the pages?

• Page numbers, are they in the correct place and right number?

• Have you integrated text and image on the cover, contents page and article?

• Have you included an editorial note in your contents?

Q2: How does your music magazine represent particular social groups?

• A social group is a group of people that share a common interest. e.g Teenage girls who are interested in R&B music.

• What social group does your magazine represent?

• Analyse the images used in your magazine and consider how they represent the social group through appearance/dress/body language?

• What assumptions can be made about the interests/ lifestyle of the social group through the content of your magazine?

Q3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

• Referring back to your previous research, identify which institution would be best suited to publish your magazine and why.

• Who and Why are the important parts of this question.

• The Who? Questionnaire – informs your planning, tells you about your audience. Age, gender, race, social class, interests etc

• The Why? Is to find out your reasons, consider sales, marketing, relationship with reader, based on prior knowledge etc.

Q5: How did you attract/address your audience?

• Refer to questionnaire again.

• Attract: consider, central image and anchorage text, puffs, lures, colours used, the title of your magazine. All part of the package, think about Brand, USP.

• Address: Is the language you have used appropriate for your target audience? Is it formal or slang and if so why?

Q6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of

constructing the product?

• What technologies have you learnt skills in?

• Adobe Creative Suite (CS3). Includes Illustrator and Photoshop.

• Using a digital camera• Setting up and creating a Blog to present your work.

For all of these you should discuss what you havelearnt in terms of skills, what the technologyallowed you to do in terms of creating meaning and presenting your work to a wide audience.

Q7: What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from the preliminary task to the

full product?

• What changes/improvements have you made to the layout, images used, language and placement of text to create meaning?

Audience feedback

• You MUST include reference to audience feedback in your evaluation.

• Refer to your Blog and the results of polls or surveys you have done.

• What did they tell you about audience response to your work? How would you respond in future issues to the feedback given?

Top Tips

• Please submit in size 12, double spacing, it makes it easier to mark.

• Read through your work before submitting and check for errors.

• Remember basic grammar and punctuation rules; full stops, paragraphs, how long a sentence should be, language used.

• You can include print screens of your work when referring to them, especially when comparing your preliminary to your final magazine.
