MyLab Alpha Quick Start

Basic Setup

• The system has a 2.5 minute start time, but can be put in standby mode to allow for an 8 second boot time.

• From the patient data screen, click on the Menu button

• Then Click on General Setup in the lower left of the screen

• Then Select Control Panel at top of screen

• Then the drop down arrow below Shutdown Type and select Standby

• While in the General Setup, lets go ahead and set the Date/Time and Measure Units, by selecting the tabs at the top of the screen

• Next lets enter the clinic name.

• From the Clinical Configurations screen, select Center ID

• Then select Clone at the bottom left.

• Enter your clinic information under the Center ID also under the Report Info if you are planning on printing reports from the system

• Click Save

Entering a Patient

• From the Patient Data Screen (if not at the patient data screen, click End Exam and save study)

• Click the Keyboard and enter patient info.

Selecting A Preset

• If the keyboard is open, click the keyboard button again to close

• Select the desired probe,

• Select the desired Application

• Select the desired Preset

• Select Start Exam

Keyboard Note

An external USB keyboard can be used to make entering patient date

and report data easier.

“Soft Keys”

• The “Soft Keys” are adjusted by the paddles just below

• The setting that is on top and Yellow is the active setting

• To activate the other setting, just touch it and they will switch

Adjusting Image

• Depth and Frequency

• You can adjust depth and frequency by the paddles just below, or by the Dial.

• By pushing the center of the dial it will toggle between the two.

• The orange “finger print” on the Freq or depth will show which is active

Gain

• The TGC’s (“fine gain”) are along the left side of the system and will adjust gain at specific depths

• The overall gain is on the dial on the right side of the system

• Pressing the center button on the gain will Auto Adjust the image to what the system sees as optimal.

Focus

• The focus can be adjusted by the toggle on the “soft Keys” or by the track ball

Saving an Image

• To save an image, select the Freeze button in the lower right corner

• You can then use the track ball to scroll back about 90 seconds to get the perfect image

• Click on Clip Image

Saving a Cine Loop

• There are two ways to save a loop.

• You can save starting at the current moment and going into the next several seconds (depending on the Clip Duration you have selected). To do this, as you are scanning, just press the Clip Image button

• You can also save the past about 90 seconds. To do this, click the freeze button, then click play on the touch screen and then the Acquire button

Doppler and Doppler Gain

• Your Doppler functions (Continuous Wave, Pulse Wave and Color Flow) are located on the lower left of the system

• The large dial is your Doppler Gain. This dial changes your overall sensitivity to flow signals.

Color Doppler

• This button activates your color Doppler.

• Color Doppler provides direction and amplitude information

• Note: to change your doppler box size, click the ACTION button above the track ball and use the trackball to adjust to your desired size. Click ACTION again to be able to move the box around the image

Power Doppler

• To activate Power Doppler, click the CFM button and then on the touch screen, click “PWR D”

• Note: Power Doppler is valuable in low-flow states and when optimal Doppler angles cannot be optained

Pulse Wave

• This button activates the Pulse Wave Doppler

• Pulse Wave measures velocity of flow through blood vessels

Continuous Wave Doppler

• This button activates the Continuous Wave Doppler

• Continuous Wave measures velocity of flow through valves.

• Note: Continuous Wave is probe specific. A Phased Array probe is needed for CW

Basic Measurements

The caliper button (+…+) allows you to do a 2 point measurement along with other Basic Measurements •Freeze your image and hit caliper button. Move your trackball to area you would like to start. Hit set (button on left or right of tract ball…which ever you have dedicated to this. Left button is default) and move to 2nd area. To do second measure, click the set button again and follow above steps. •You can do also do a variety of measurements including ration, area, length, volume

• When the caliper button is selected, a list of user defined measurement will appear on the touch screen. Touch the one you would like to use and then use the set button to select the desired measurement (as detailed in last slide)

User Calculations

•The Measure button allows you to do user defined measurements (ex. Kidney, adrenal, pancreas, bladder) when using an abdomen preset.

•When using a cardiac preset you can do LV measurements and LA/AO ratio’s…just as examples

Annotations

• This button allows you to label your images

• You can simply begin typing and label your image or hit the Annot button and choose from a list of preset labels displayed on the touch screen

• Use your trackball to move your label and then hit the set key to place

• Once your preset labels screen is up use the keys on the right of the touch screen to clear label, delete word , or add an arrow

• You can also select to insert “By Word” or “By Sentence”

M-Mode

• This button activates your M-mode

• Make sure you are in a cardiac presets to have your cardiac measurement package available

• While in M-Mode the dial to the right of the M button is the M-Mode gain.

M-Mode Measurements

• Freeze image in M-mode and hit the Measure button.

• User Defined Measurements will show up on the Touch Screen.

• Select the desired measurement and use the set key to select measurement area

• Note: All measurements will be added to your report automatically.

Ending and Saving the Study

• To end the exam, click on the “End Exam” button on the left side of the system

• This will bring up a screen which will give you options on where to save the study.

• Select the way you would like the study saved and where you would like it sent to. – Native will save the image in the

native format allowing you to put the image on MyLab Desk

– Multimedia will save the images in multimedia format allowing you to pull up images and loops on any computer

– DICOM will save the images in DICOM format

Backing Up Old Studies

• To backup old studies, click on the “Archive” button next to the “End Exam” button

• Select the study or studies desired and click “Export” on the Touch Screen. Then follow the instructions on the previous slide

• Note: to select more than one study, place the arrow over the first study, then click and hold the “Action” button and using the trackball drag the arrow down until all of the desired studies are highlighted
