B.S in Chemistry from NYU

Conducted research with Professor Wais Hosseini in Strasbourg, France

Ph.D in 2005 from California Institute of Technology under professor Brian Stoltz

Joined Professor Larry Overman At UC as NIH Postdoctoral Scholar

2007, joined UCLA

Promoted to Associate Professor in 2012, then Full Professor in 2013

Career

From 2012-2016, Garg was the Vice

Chair for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Currently, he is serving as

Department Chair

In 2018, Garg was appointed as the

inaugural holder of the Kenneth N.

Trueblood Endowed chair in Chemistry and Biochemistry

ResearchDevelopment of synthetic strategies and methods that enable the synthesis of complex bioactive molecules

◦ Transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of unconventional electrophiles, such as esters and amides, using non-precious metal catalysis, and bench stable preparations of catalysts.

New tactics to synthesize functionalized heterocycles, including ‘interrupted Fischerindolization cascades and the manipulation of cyclic alkynes and allenes

Total synthesis of complex small molecules, such as drugs and natural products.
