Introducing Amado Gonzalez...
Hello St. James! My name is Amado Gonzalez and I am coming to St. James all the way from Houston, Texas but I am currently residing in lovely San Marcos. I was born into a Catholic family and learned church teachings and attended Mass weekly, but it wasn’t until many years later in college that I fully came to realize just who Jesus Christ really is and that's when I fell in love with Christ and His Church. At a young age I taught myself guitar and dreamed of being a rock star. As a re-sult, I have a passion for music particularly when it comes to worship these days. Everyone dreams of becoming a rock star but some of us just don't have what it takes BUT we are all called to be saints (see Pope Francis’ World Youth Day address) and that is something I am cur-rently working on! Talk about ambitious! Although I have a long way to go with that I am excited to share my passion for music, community, discipleship and help the youth and parish as a whole to sainthood!
Throughout my college career I have directed and led many youth and Confirmation retreats for Austin area parishes and have been involved in various ways with university campus ministries. I have attend conferences all over the US focused on the New Evangelization and also spent some time in Kingston, Jamaica on a mission trip with the Missionaries of the Poor. After working with the poor and youth in Jamaica, the little country is now dear to my heart. I am currently working on finishing my undergraduate degree in philosophy with a minor in economics. I am really excited to be welcomed into the community of St. James and can't wait to meet and share in the Gospel with everyone!
Introducing Joey Gutierrez…
My Name is Joey Gutierrez and I am one of the two new youth ministers here at St. James Catholic Church. I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the youth and families of the parish.
I hold a Bachelor of Sciences in Psychology, with a Minor in Music. I also hold an “Advanced” level Certification in Religious Education, as well as a Certificate in Youth Ministries. Most recently I received a Certificate in Pastoral Lay Ministry. I currently teach Religious Studies and Choral Music at St. Gerard Catholic High School in San Antonio, Texas. I have lived and worked in the Archdiocese of San Antonio for the past 5 years. Before my move to this area I ministered in the Diocese of San Angelo and the Diocese of Lubbock. Since a very young age I have responded to God’s call to ministry with the help of the Holy Spirit. I have played the piano and organ in church since elementary school. I have devoted myself to Faith Formation and Youth Ministry for the past ten years. I am passionate about sharing the faith and tradition of Mother Church to youth and families.
Please know that we have many great plans for Lifeteen this year! It is our sincere hope to draw others closer to Christ. Please pray for the works of ministry I will do here at St. James Catholic Church. I look forward to meeting you very soon, till then may God give you peace and good. Pax et donum, Joey Gutierrez CYM
