In 2000, my company Syntech raised RMB30 million from Qingdao Aucma group which is a large-sized state-owned enterprises and a professional electrical household appliance manufacturer in China

In 2002, I went back to my hometown Ningbo to start my second company Asee Co., Ltd. Asee’s main business was the marketing and sale of traffic surveillance systems.

This photo was taken in 2003 while I was demonstrating some photo radar products to representatives of the traffic police chiefs in China. They visited my business partner Robot Visual Systems GmbH in Germany.

Traffic fatalities in Zhejiang Province reduced 9% within one year after the the police started using of our surveillance systems.

The most outrageously over-speeding car caught by our photo radar at speed of 255km/h on a 110km/h speed limit highway in China.

In 2008, I invested and developed a project of 1,200 condominium units and 60,000-sqm shopping mall in Zhoushan City of China. This project generated a total net profit of US$66m within 3 years. Our initial investment was US$50m.

In 2010, my company moved in to this new building that was developed and owned by my company. We occupied the 7th floor; the rest of spaces were rented out to over 15 other companies.

My team in China will move into another self-owned building by the time I start my MBA program at Stern in 2014.

In 2012, I attended the University of Omaha for a one-week course, Genius of Warren Buffett, by Professor Robert Miles.

In May 2012, I was at Berkshire Hathaway AGM in Omaha with Mr. Duan Yongping, founder and CEO of the well-known Chinese company BuBuGao. Mr. Duan donated USD 30m in 2006 to the university that he graduated from.

In 2011, I sponsored the “Ding Xin Scholarship” at Li Huili High School where I graduated from. The scholarship is named in my company’s honor and it has been granted annually to outstanding students from low-income families.

I am an Executive Member of Zhejiang Youth Entrepreneurs Association and my company had AAA credit rating in China.

Although, I am older than many full-time MBA candidates, I want my children to grow up knowing that learning is a lifelong process and that “it is never too late to learn”.

My happy family: my wife and I now live in Singapore with our two children.

In 2010, I was at a bodybuilding training camp coached by the world champion of 65kg weight Mr. Qian Jichen.
