Zoom meetingmortality on the Black community, the impact of centuries of racism in

America have finally been laid bare on a national stage. In our roles as

clinicians, scientists, researchers, and policy makers, it is imperative that

we acknowledge that the only way to close the racial gap in health

outcomes is by identifying, confronting, and abolishing racism, including

in our data and analysis.

This is the first of three discussion seminars to allow more in-depth

discussion of the many issues brought up at the inaugural seminar in this

series on Anti-racism in Data and Analysis, "Can Data Be Racist?" in

November 2020. We will break into small groups to discuss issues with

race-adjustment and the thoughtful use and interpretation of race in

future work. Participants are expected to read Dr. Boyd et al's recent

Health Affairs article, "On Racism: A New Standard for Publishing on

Racial Health Inequities" and to watch a 30-minute introduction,

prepared by Sarah B. Andrea, Ph.D. M.P.H., ahead of the seminar.
