Fleming County Homemaker Outing and Picnic @
Abner Mill Fellowship Chapel
Enjoy the company of other Homemakers while you visit the Abner Mill Fellowship Chapel, featured on Barnwood Builders. This chapel was built by two of our local residents: Johnnie Jett and Sherman Thompson. While there, Dean Brewer, Pleasant Ridge Christian Church minister will lead a short service before lunch, and then Johnnie will share information about the chapel building. This outing will be held on Saturday October 7, 10:30 a.m. at the Abner Mill Fellowship Chapel. It is located on the Abner Mill Road in Nicholas County. Bring a covered dish and a chair. Fried Chicken will be provided by our Homemaker Council. Please register at the Extension office by Oct. 4th, call 845-4641. Members can carpool from FCEO at 10am, if desired, just call the FCEO.
FC GRANDPARENT RAISING GRANDCHILDREN SUPPORT GROUP MEETING - FRIDAY, NOVENBER 3 AT 10:00 A.M., FCEO (No mtg. in Oct.) Come join us (and other relatives) raising Grandchildren. This group setting provides interaction with other people who are experiencing some of the same issues. It is a relaxed and confidential setting in which to share and learn. AREA HOMEMAKER MEETING OCT 24. Make plans to attend the Licking River Area Homemakers Fall meeting on Tuesday, October 24th. This event will be held at the Tollesboro Christian Church with Registration beginning at 10am. The guest speaker will be Steve Vest, editor of the Kentucky Monthly magazine. Register by October 17th. Registration fee is $15.00
HOLIDAY WALKING CHALLENGE Fall into Fitness by participating in the holiday walking challenge beginning on Oct. 23rd and runs through January 8th. This 11 week challenge is based on the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s walking plan and allows you to start at just five days a week and at a pace that is comfortable for YOU. This program includes: •Only 2 meetings. The first meeting will be October 23. Stop by anytime between 4:00 and
5:30 pm at the Extension office. The last meeting will be January 8th between the hours of 4 and 5:30pm.
•Schedule and Log to keep you on track•Weekly newsletters with tips and information to keep you moving and help you to keep the
weigh off during the busy holiday season. The first meeting will be October 23. Stop by anytime between 4:00 and 5:30 pm at the Extension office. The last meeting will be January 8th between the hours of 4 and 5:30pm.
Program is free to all participants. Incentives will be given and prizes will be awarded at the end for those seeing the program completed and log forms returned. Register now to participate by contacting the Fleming County Extension office.
NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS CLUB MEETS EVERY MONTH, NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME - Neighborhood Kids will meet on October 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the FCEO. All members are from Grade 4 - 12. Please continue to invite any youth who shows an interest in homemaking and wants to learn new skills, have some fun and enjoy being in a club!
TURKEY WREATH FOR THANKSGIVING SEASON – MONDAY, OCTOBER 23, 6 – 9 PM Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate with family and friends. Plan to attend a workshop to create a unique wreath to decorate for your Thanksgiving activities. Cindy Jolly will help us make a burlap wreath that resembles a turkey. Sample will be provide available soon. All supplies will be furnished. Cost of class is $25.00. Please preregister by October 16th. Class size will be limited.
SMALL APPLIANCES UPDATE Are you overwhelmed with the latest in small appliances for your kitchen? Learn more about a few of those appliances just in time for holiday cooking, or for gift giving. The Fleming County Cooperative Extension service will share some basic info on three current appliances and some taste testing: The electric pressure cooker, air fryer and the jam/jelly maker. This session will be held on Monday: November 6, 6pm at the Fleming County Extension office. Registration fee is $2.00. Register by calling 606-845-4641.

Food samples available for “Fall Spiced Pumpkin Bread.” A Variety of recipes cards and incentives will be featured. “LET’S MAKE FALL HEALTHY” – OCT. 20, 4-6PM - Ken’s Fresh Foods is partnering with Gwen O’Cull, EFNEP Assistant for the FCEO to host Let’s Make Fall Healthy, our October’s In-store “Food Demonstration.” Our featured recipe card is Pumpkin Smoothie. The food sampling will be “Apple Cinnamon Popcorn.” Gwen O’Cull will be sharing samples of two delicious recipes with useful, nutritional information. Join Gwen and attend this demonstration while you are in town this evening, stop by for a few grocery items and visit a moment, then to enter a wonderful door prize.

FLEMING CO. FARMERS MARKET opens Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. as usual until sellout, located in the Extension Office parking lot. Any questions, please contact Farmers Market Chairman, Jeremy Myers at (cell) 606-209-2900. IMPORTANT NOTE: Anyone that has received Senior or WIC Farmers Market vouchers needs to use them soon. Fresh produce is getting sparse. These are the same as money and should be used to help feed families farm fresh produce. If they are not used, then in coming years, Fleming County may not receive these vouchers to use. Recipients can help their families and the local farmers by redeeming them.
