Inked in Blood and Spirit of Freedom—Khooni Vaisakhi

This�session�shall�be�a�discussion�between�HE�Navdeep�Suri�and�eminent�UAE�based�journalist�Bikram�Vohra�on�Suri’s�latest�book�“Khooni�Vaisakhi”.�The�original�poem�was�written�in�Punjabi�language�by�author’s�grandfather�Nanak�Singh,�an�eminent�writer,�who�is�considered�as�the�father�of�Punjabi�literature.�The�poem�has�been�translated�for�the�first�time�in�English�and�is�probably�the�only,�survivor’s�account�of�the�worst�atrocity�under�British�Raj,�the�Jallianwala�Bagh�massacre�in�April�1919�in�Amritsar.�The�author�shall�discuss�how�this�incident�changed�the�course�of�India’s�freedom�struggle,�giving�the�context�surrounding�the�incident.�The�author�shall�also�discuss�how�people�of�various�faiths�came�together�to�stand�up�to�colonization�and�oppression�in�one�of�India’s�darkest�moments.
