THIS ORIENTATION IS DIVIDED INTO TWO SECTIONS:

The On-Campus Interview (OCI) program provides Cal State L.A. seniors, grad students, and recent alumni the opportunity to interview for full-time, entry-level positions with an array of employers from all industries.

The OCI program is conducted over several weeks during the Fall, Winter and Spring quarters. Current Cal State L.A. students and recent Cal State L.A. alumni from all majors are encouraged to participate. Interviews are held in the Career Development Center at Cal State L.A.

The OCI program is ONLY available to Cal State L.A. students and alumni. Open Enrollment and Extended Education students are NOT eligible to participate.

WHAT IS OCI?

Eagle iJobs is an online tool that allows you to view upcoming career events, career center workshops, and internship and job listings. You can upload your resume, cover letter, and other documents 24/7. Registration is needed to access Eagle iJobs.

Eagle iJobs OCI Schedules is a component within Eagle iJobs that we use to schedule and coordinate the OCI program. Participants can browse through the Eagle iJobs OCI Schedules to see which employers are recruiting, submit resumes, and schedule interview times with employers if qualified and/or selected by employers.

In order to have this link activated you must: •First create a student account on Eagle iJobs;•Then, attend an OCI orientation workshop; AND •Review the OCI orientation presentation online.

ACCESS TO OCI SCHEDULES

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERVIEW ELIGIBILITY AND/OR SELECTION

Employers request that candidates meet three minimum requirements in order to be eligible and/or selected for an interview.

These minimum requirements are:•Degree (BA/BS and/or MA/MS);•Major (e.g., Psychology, Accounting, etc.); AND•Graduation Date (e.g., You graduate on 6/2014) .

Depending on the interview method, employers may also consider other factors such as GPA, student involvement (clubs), project work, certifications (CPA, EIT, CFA, etc.), volunteer experience, and leadership roles.

TYPES OF INTERVIEW METHODSPART 1

Employers that recruit through the OCI program choose an interview method for selecting candidates. There are three interview methods available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages for the candidate.

Employers select one of the following methods:• Open Interview (most common)• Pre-select (competitive)• Resume Drop (similar to Pre-select)

TYPES OF INTERVIEW METHODSPART 2

• OPEN METHOD – If you meet the employer’s minimum requirements, you’ll be able to sign-up for an interview. You may choose any open time slot for an interview, through the Eagle iJobs OCI Schedules, that is within the trigger date*. Interview slots are limited and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

• PRE-SELECT METHOD – Employers choose interview candidates based on their evaluation of resumes. To apply, you should submit your resume via OCI Schedules. If selected, an email will be sent to you by the employer or the OCI coordinator notifying you of your selection. Check trigger dates. Only those that are selected will be notified by email. You are then responsible for scheduling an interview time via Eagle iJobs OCI Schedules.

• RESUME DROP METHOD – Employers choose interview candidates based upon evaluation of resumes. Interviews are conducted at the company’s site. Interview candidates will receive notifications directly from the employer regarding interview arrangements. Only those selected will be notified!

* Trigger dates: Start & end dates in which you can sign-up for interview slots.

INTERVIEW DURATIONS

Employers also determine the length of the interview. You need to know this to help you prepare.

Interview durations:•30 minutes (up to 12 potential interviews per schedule)•45 minutes (up to 9 potential interviews per schedule)•1 hour (up to 6 potential interviews per schedule)

Interview duration is posted within each job profile.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: PART 1

Q: Does participating in the OCI program guarantee an interview or being hired?

A: No. Participation does NOT guarantee an interview or getting hired. However, it does directly connect you with the employer. Preparation is the key to doing well in an interview and increasing your chances of being hired.

Q: I work for the city and I was told to go to the Career Center to sign up for interviews to other departments hiring within the city. Can I participate in OCI?

A: Unfortunately, no. OCI is only available to current Cal State L.A. students and registered Cal State L.A. alumni (see next question for more details). Specific policies and procedures for accessing Eagle iJobs and the OCI program limit program enrollment.

Q: I graduated from another university and I want to interview with a company that is participating in the OCI program?

A: Only current Cal State L.A. students and registered Cal State L.A. alumni can participate in the OCI program. Alumni who have graduated more than one quarter prior to OCI participation will need to become a Career Center Associate or be a registered member of the Alumni Association in order to use our services. Open Enrollment and Extended Education students are not eligible to participate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: PART 2

Q: With the pre-select method, once I have submitted my resume, when can I sign-up? A: With the pre-select method you have to be aware of the trigger dates. Those are dates when the system allows you to submit your resume and, if selected, you can then sign-up for an interview.

Q: I qualify for a position that is “open method” yet all the interview time slots are full. Why can’t I sign-up?

A: Open method interviews, if you qualify, are limited in the number of available time slots. The time slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. That said, a feature called the Waiting List might be an option for you. The Waiting List will only become available once all time slots are full. You can place your name on the Waiting List and the employer will be notified. The employer will decide if they want to open another schedule to accommodate those on the Waiting List. Please note that placing your name on the Waiting List does NOT guarantee an interview.
