A recap of Day One

Today was our first ever

OpenPOWER Summit in

Europe, and there was

electricity in the air!

We’re very excited to have

our first ever OpenPOWER

Summit in Europe. We’re here

and really excited to show

you what we’re doing on the

continent.

Calista Redmond

President

OpenPOWER Foundation

And all anyone could talk

about was how

OpenPOWER continues

to drive innovation in the

data center.

We’re no longer content to look at

historical information. In fact, we’re not

always content to look at information

as it’s happening. We want to look at

predictive information that can impact

us strategically going forward with our

business. Calista Redmond

President

OpenPOWER Foundation

OpenPOWER is the

most significant

‘agent provocateur’

in a stagnant world!

Fabrizio Magugliani

E4 Computer Engineering

It’s that particular movement where it’s

not only the right thing to do but also the

higher performing thing. It’s a balance of

openness, control, and building your

own solution. OpenPOWER is the only

organization offering this.

Georg Greve

CEO, Kolab

Founder, Free Software Foundation Europe

And we heard from

members who are already

seeing amazing

performance with their

OpenPOWER use cases

We’re very happy to be collaborating

with multiple OpenPOWER members

like IBM, NVIDIA, Micron, and Xilinx.

These partners are all contributing to

the mission of the Barcelona

Supercomputing Center, including

our IBM-BSC Deep Learning Center.

One of the things we couldn’t really

do with the BlueGene generation of

hardware was have the flexibility to

deploy things like Hadoop and

Spark, but with POWER8, we can.

Already we’ve seen a number of

customers who are ready to

move to POWER.

We’re investigating machine

learning, big data, and DBaaS

Director

Global Escalaat Atos

And we supported them

with announcements of

even more to come!

Up to 24 cores, Direct-

attach DDR4 Memory,

PCI Gen4, NVLink 2.0,

CAPI 2.0, and

OpenCAPI.

Including our exciting new

CAPI Storage, Network,

and Analytics

Programming Framework,

or CAPI SNAP! It makes it

easier than ever for

organizations of all sizes

to adopt CAPI

acceleration.http://bit.ly/2eUgwhY

We see the CAPI SNAP capability

being used to initially boost or

enable rich real-time analytics and

stream processing in variety of

increasingly Machine to Machine

driven use cases.

Chief Business Development Officer

And last, but not least, we

announced the four winners of the

inaugural OpenPOWER Developer

Challenge! You can read our

Chairman John Zannos’s thoughts,

That’s it for today! Be sure

to stay tuned tomorrow as

we continue to bring you

the latest from the

OpenPOWER Summit

Europe and the ‘agent

provocateurs’ at

OpenPOWER!
