The UMTS Network planning is a concepts used to do coverage and capacity study for specific area.

Network Design should be optimum.

planners should have ability of radio propagation prediction.

Overview Overview

Problems Facing UMTS Network Design:

Environmental constraints. Planning future. Uncertainty traffic growth and service. Cost.

Case studyCase study Geographically located in the north-east of Khartoum.

The estimated total area is 5060 Km²(selected 43Km²)

characteristics of the selected area:

Radio Network Planning (RNP)

Coverage Plan:to identify the cell coverage (Radius)

then the required number of Node

Bs (RBSs).

Capacity Plan:to grantee enough resources for the

available users.

General RNP tool requirements: -Importing sites.-Editing sites and Cells.-Simulating Link Performance.-Analyzing the results.-Reporting.-Interworking with other Tools.

Atoll:Atoll is a Windows based radio network planning (RNP) tool supporting wireless telecom operators during the whole network lifetime.

Design Steps:- 1.Calculation:PL= Node B Transmission Power

+ Node B Antenna Gain - Cable Loss - Penetration Loss - Body Loss + UE Antenna Gain (dB)+SHO Gain –SHO Gain -Interference Margin -UE Reception Sensitivity PL= 36+18-3-15-3+0+3-3-5-5-(-104) = 127 dB

α= (PL-61-20 log f)/20 =2.9675

R=10α

R =0.79km=800m

Area=3/2 √ 3 R² =2.2 Km²

Number of Sites = 43/2.2=19.54= 20 Sites.

Software Application

Cases:-1.Reorienting antenna:

2. Lock site(Coverage of future population growth area)
