In 1818 Americans and British agreed to ''joint occupation'' of Oregon. They allowed citizens to settle there. Over decades settlers went there for different reasons.

American Reasons

Americans went to Oregon to become missionaries.Or to start farms or large settlements.

British Reasons

Oregon for

fur trade.

The Treaty In 1846 United

States signed a

treaty with Great

Britain.It gave

Oregon,

Washington, Idaho,

part of Montana,

and Wyoming.

States had all the

land between Pacific

and Atlantic Oceans

States.They had a lot

of land to settle.

Oregon Trail

Some people were going west they took the Oregon trail which is a trail for wagons it was 2,000 miles long some people traveled in groups for it to be easier but still many people died.
