The Right People Environment of Trust Culture of Improvement Discipline of Standards Foundation of Integrity

Most important asset Don’t need to be managed Image to the world Allow you to do your job

Subordinates must trust you Must trust subordinates Organization is first priority (over

friendship & personal relationships) Give credit and accept blame Let truth and facts be heard – if not, can’t

make good decisions

Must continue to learn Must train subordinates – must be better

than you You do not have all the answers Allow subordinates to solve issues (this is

how they learn) Conduct AARs (after action reviews) to

determine facts, not to issue blame

Set and enforce high standards If it is important, check it Determine can’t vs. won’t Be rigorous, not ruthless When you need to act – do it!!

You must lead with integrity Legal, moral, ethical Corrupt people want you to be corrupt Word and deed must match There are no secrets
