REVIEW: EDWARD SAID’S “ORIENTALISM” “Orientalism [is] the [West’s] corporate

institution for dealing with the Orient […] by making statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by teaching it, settling it: in short, Orientalism as a Western style for dominating, restructuring, and having authority over the Orient” (88).

“Orientalism is more particularly valuable as a sign of European-Atlantic power over the Orient than it is a veridic [true] discourse about the Orient” (90).
