A typical Day in a French High school, the

« lycée »   Most of the pupils go to high school by bus, train or scooter, bike… but little are the ones who can

go to the lycée by feet.

During the day, we have seven hours of lessons approximately. If we haven’t classes, we can go to

the “CDI” this is a Learning Resources Center.

After two hours of lessons, we have a break of 10 minutes, we can go outside to smoke for example

or stay in the main hall.

Célia & Krystal.

Lunch!

Noon, we have a 1.30 hours break to eat.  Those who live nearby return at home while others go to the canteen. At the canteen, we have to queue to take our meal in the self . During lunch time, pupils can listen to music in the principal hall, this is great because we can choose any style of music: rap,  r’n’b, techno, arabic, rock…

School subjects of a French High School

In France, most of subjects are compulsory. We

do not choose what we study, except the

second and the third foreign languages.

Overall, main subjects are mathematics,

French, history-geography, physics-chemistry,

sciences, sports, English and Spanish language.

FRENCHIn this subject, we study French literature, the greatest writers of all ages, we learn to examine texts, we read lots of books...

It’s an important subject because

next year, we’ll take an exam about it (anticipated baccalauréat)

(We have 4 hours a

week of this subject.)

HISTORYWe study the history of many countries from the Antiquity to nowdays, mainly French history. It’s an interesting subject but the excessive large number of dates we have to learn annoys most of the pupils ! ( We have 4 hours a week of this subject)

SCIENCESFrench students call this subject SVT (science of earth life). We have two hours a week. In this subject we study nature, human beings, animals, volcanos… Sometimes we make dissection of animal : we cut the animal and we observe all its organs.

(We have 1 hour and a half a week of this subject)

PHYSICAL EDUCATIONFrench students call this subject EPS, two hours a week. In this subject we practise sport like volley-ball, gymnastic, handball, rugby, acrobatic gymnastic, football… During the year we practise five different sports. Generally students like this subject.

EXPLORATION LESSON

This year, we have to choose an exploration lesson to discover a subject.

We have a choice between: -Literature and Society                                               -computer.                                              -sport                                              -artistic creation                                             -sciences of laboratories

OPTIONS

As most of European countries, we’ll take

an examination called “le baccalauréat”,

the high school diploma at the end of the

high school, equivalent to a “A Level”. All

the subjects are concerned, but we can

choose options which we’ll help us to pass

this diploma, for example: theater, music,

art.
