Single Session / PERI Upgrading

• We are looking into ensuring that a full suite offacilities is available to cater to the wholestudent population when we transit to operate insingle-session.

• We are continuing to work closely with MOE onthe timeline and implementation details for thetransition to single-session.

• When the timeline is confirmed, we will informthe parents.

WRSS Bursaries

In commemoration of 65 years of education and nation-building, the RSS School Management Committee (SMC) has set up 3 bursaries:1)The World Red Swastika Society Bursary 2) Goh Keng Swee Foundation Bursary 3) Choong Yeok Yin Bursaryto provide financial assistance to students from low-income families.

By setting up the bursaries, it hopes to • touch the lives of RSS students, and• instil in them greater awareness of the

values of charity and compassion.

Look out for the application form in Term 4 this year for Bursaries 2018.

School matters

RSS Meal Break Timing (wef 2017)

• All students

• Other than recess, there will 10 min meal break for the respective levels:–P1 and P2 5.10pm-5.20pm

–P3 and P4 11.55am-12.05pm

–P5 and P6 8.25am-8.35am

Rationale for Meal Break

• Benefits for students: Students, particularlyprimary school students, should be allowed to eatregularly so that they may benefit in terms oftheir cognitive, physical and socio-emotionaldevelopment.

• Promote well-being of students: Students,particularly those taking school bus or publictransport, may take time to reach home and theirlunch would be delayed. Hence, providing a 2nd

break could ensure that students do not go hungryfor an extended period of time

RSS Meal Break Food Items• Food to be brought into classroom

– Museli bar, dry cereal without milk, fresh/ dried fruit, buns, bread, biscuits, muffins, nuts, plain water

– No ice-cream, chocolate, sweet, chips, sweet drinks

• Should still be in line with healthy meal programme

• Parents may give children pocket money to purchase snacks. However, students will have to purchase before the meal break (ie during recess or before school)

• No sharing of food as students may have allergy

RSS Meal Break Guidelines

• Chime to signal meal break and instill discipline for first month.

• Meal break will be in class. Students will not be going to the canteen.

• Lesson can still carry on with order in class or toilet break.

• No meal break during assessment.

• To ensure hygiene and cleanliness, empty the basket at the main rubbish bin so that the classroom is free of pests

• P2 students are given the roles of being a buddy to the new P1 students.

• They spent their recesses with the P1 students and took on the role of being a senior to them.

P2 Prefects Leadership Training

• At P2 level, our P2 prefects are newly nominated by their teachers. As probation prefect, they are new to their leadership position

• P2 prefects leadership training provides a foundation on the essence of leadership and what being a leader is really about : service

Early Literacy Indicators for English and Early Numeracy Indicators for Maths (MOE) were conducted in January to identify pupils who need support in their reading and numeracy skills.

What are the assessments that my child will go through every term?

A note would be given to parents providing information about the assessment tasks at least 1 week before the assessment.

Should your child/ward be absent for an assessment task, she is required to submit a medical certificate for that day or no marks would be given to him/her.

**Should your child/ward be unwell on the day of an assessment task, do let him/her stay at home and rest.

How will I receive feedback on my child’s progress?

Application for Clubs & UGs only in Primary 3. No action required in 2017 should students only wish to join
