This spring more than88 percent of KershawCounty School District’s(KCSD) 11th gradersscored at the bronze levelor better on the ACTWorkKeys exam, certify-ing that they have theessential skills needed forsuccess in the work-place.

Kershaw County’sscore is four percentagepoints better than the

state average of 84 per-cent. In a comparison of16 area school districts,KCSD’s percentage ofstudents earning an ACTNational Career Readi-ness Certificate wasthird, behind only Lex-ington 1 and Lexing-ton/Richland 5.

“This certificate isused nationally byemployers to determine aperson’s level of bothcognitive and soft skillsneeded for a job,” saidKCSD Superintendent

Frank Morgan. “As weare working to prepareour students to be col-lege and/or career-ready,we are pleased to seethese results and recog-nize the important rolethey play in KershawCounty’s efforts toenhance economic devel-opment.”The test includes threetimed parts: Reading forInformation, AppliedMathematics and Locat-ing Information.
