All of the major bones

• Skull• Rib cage • Femur • Pelvis• Fibula • Tibia • Ulna• Vertebra column (spin)• Humerus• Radius• Scapula• Sternum• Clavicle• Carpals• Metacarpals• Patella• Phalanges • Tarsals• Metatarsals

Structure and function of the skull

• the function of the skull is to protect our fragile brain

• the structure of our skull is: • It is made up of 6 parts • It is like a difficult puzzle

Structure and function of the femur • the function of the femur is it gives

support to the whole body • helps you walk• the structure of the femur is the top

part looks like a head that fits into the hip socket

• the middle part is like a arch• the end part attaches to the• knee and looks like a square

Structure and function of the spine• the function of the spine is• allow us to move • allow flexibility• let us have a upright position• the structure of the spine is it looks like

blocks stacked together

Structure and function of the rib cage• the function of the rib cage is • #1 is to protect our lungs and heart• #2 is to help us breath• the structure of the rib cage is made up

of 12 pairs of bones

Skeletal systems relationship with another body systems

• it has a relationship with the nervous system because it protects the brain

• it has a relationship with the circulatory system because the white and red blood cells are made of bone marrow.

Healthy effects on the skeletal system

• Calcium helps bones grow to proper size and strength

• Vitamins, A,C,D• Wear lots of padding while playing

sports

Harmful effects on the skeletal system

• Low calcium• Unsuitable exercise• Trauma caused by lots of impact• Broken bones

Common diseases associated with the skeletal system • Osteopetrosis• Dry• Brittle• And weak bone

• Osteoarthritis• Most common form of arthritis• Occurs when you are 65• Occurs when cartilage begins to wear and decay

• Ankylosing spondylitis• Makes tendons and ligaments inflamed• It leads to osteoarthritis in hips, shoulders, and knees

Interesting facts

• DID YOU KNOW…• The smallest bone in our body is as small as a rice grain• The biggest bone in our body is the pelvis or hip bone• Cartilage rots faster than bone• Your bone is stronger than steel• Your bones get lighter as you age• Us and giraffes have the same amount of bones• Men's bones are thicker than women's bones• The most broken bone is the collar bone • The femur makes up almost one quarter of our bodies height • Our skulls are three pennies thick
