MON 28 MAR - SAT 14 MAY
The latest brochure for the Palace Theatre & Opera House, Manchester, is packed with everything you need to know about the exciting shows on offer over the coming months, including the very best of ballet, musical theatre, drama and comedy – and the world premier of a spectacular supernatural love story!
English National Ballet round off their 60th Anniversary with the dramatic Romeo & Juliet, while Northern Ballet Theatre bring their festive delight that is The Nutcracker. Dig out those suspenders because The Rocky Horror Show is back! Pantos on Strike – starring Paddy McGuinness and Jonathan Wilkes is a new twist on the traditional panto, but is strictly for grown up boys and girls!
Panto looks set to be a cracker with Tina O’Brien starring as Snow White alongside Emmerdale’s Andy Devine as the Henchman. December also brings We Will Rock You. Packed with 24 Queen songs, the hit show is back following last year’s sell-out run.
We are delighted to announce that 2010 brings the eagerly-awaited return of the world-wide phenomenon Mamma Mia, with the stage show that started it all and we also welcome the touching bare-all tale of the Calendar Girls.
Finally we are proud to reveal the new musical Ghost – based on the much-loved Oscar-winning movie – will be opening at the Opera House, before it goes to the West End. With music by Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and an award-winning production team, don’t miss your chance to see Ghost first!
We hope you enjoy reading this brochure - the hard part will be picking what to see!

English National Ballet returns to Manchester this October to
open Rudolf Nureyev’s Romeo & Juliet. This breath-taking
ballet features our internationally acclaimed 67 dancers and
full orchestra of 70 players.
Nureyev’s faithful retelling of Shakespeare’s heart-breaking
love story is a spectacular display of classical ballet with
beautiful love scenes and exciting sword-fighting set to
Prokofiev’s famous score.
‘There are so many great versions of Romeo & Juliet, not
least because of the spectacular music Prokofiev created
especially for the ballet. The strength of Rudolf’s is that
it follows Shakespeare’s play so clearly and faithfully.’

SQUISHY SCIENCE FUN IN A BRAND NEW SHOW
What are millions of animals doing in your kettle? Why don’t
penguins get spots? Why doesn’t the moon wander off? Could a
10-million-volt battery float over your head? And how long would
it take for your heart to pump enough blood to fill the theatre?
Billy Miller has no idea what’s in store when he enters the crazy,
awesome World of Horrible Science and soon he is under attack
from beastly bacteria, vicious volts and foul fluids! Will he regain
control before it’s too late?! Using actors and jaw-dropping 3D
Bogglevision, this astounding show has the awful answers –
guaranteed to thrill you and your children!
From the acclaimed producers of Horrible Histories comes the
seriously squishy world premiere Horrible Science!

Christmas Eve in the twinkling drawing room of the Edwards’ family
home. Amidst the commotion the fire crackles and the pile of
presents grows ever taller.
Uncle Drosslemeyer’s curious box of performing toys captivates the
children and adults alike, but it is the wooden Nutcracker doll that
enchants young Clara most.
Share in Clara’s adventures as she is swept away by her Nutcracker
Prince into a magical winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes and
the famous Sugar Plum Fairy.
Northern Ballet’s The Nutcracker brings to life everyone’s
favourite Christmas story. Performed to Tchaikovsky’s enduring
score, played live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia, The Nutcracker

THE SELL-OUT SMASH HIT RETURNS TO ROCK MANCHESTER THIS XMAS
Phil McIntyre Entertainment, Queen Theatrical Productionsand Tribeca Theatrical Productions present
15
The worldwide smash-hit musical by Queen and Ben Elton
returns to rock Manchester this Christmas!! Since 2002 over
11 million theatregoers in 17 countries have been thrilled to see
this awe-inspiring production. With 24 of Queen’s biggest hits
delivered in a show that boasts the scale and spectacle that
marked the band’s legendary live performances, this
theatrical phenomenon is not to be missed!
When it became news some years back that one of Britain’s most
phenomenally successful comedy writers, Ben Elton, was teaming
up with legends of rock, Queen, for a musical, we all wondered
what such a unique collaboration would turn out. Especially when
screen icon Robert de Niro became so impressed after attending
the original workshop that his company Tribeca came on board.
The result was a new chapter in theatre history – We Will Rock You -
a rock ‘theatrical’ which defied all comparisons and has gone
on to become a global smash hit.
’THE AUDIENCE HAS THE RIGHT TO EXPECT SOMETHING AS FABULOUS AND GRAND AND
THEATRICAL AS THE MUSIC ITSELF’ BEN ELTON
Includes 24 of Queen’s greatest hits:
Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free, Somebody to Love, Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, Under Pressure, Another One Bites The Dust, We Are
the Champions and We Will Rock You
