The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) serves as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO) and is a member of the United Nations and Inter-American systems.

Since its founding in 1902, PAHO/WHOhas worked with member governments,other international organizations,nongovernmental groups, and other partners to improve the health and the quality of life of people throughout the hemispherthroughout the hemisphere.

Over the past century, PAHO has played a key role in such major public health successes as the: Global eradication of smallpox; Elimination of polio, measles and rubella from the Americas; and a Gain of 45 years in life expectancy in the the Western Hemisphere.
