Muslim population globally exceeds 1.6 billion, or 23% of the world population, and represents major communities in over 100 countries around the world.
By 2018, the assets of
Islamic banking have exceeded
$ 2.6 trillion
By 2030, the aggregate Awqaf assets worldwide could rise to $ 5.3 trillion.
Islamic finance, including Zakat, was estimated at almost $2tn in 2015 and is expected to surpass $3tn by 2020. In addition, between $200bn and $1tn is spent in the form of charity across the Muslim world annually.
Just a quarter of contributions are thought to be disbursed through certified channels. Hence, there is an opportunity to create incentives for organized philanthropy and innovate n e w g i v i n g ve h i c l e s a n d s o c i a l investment models.
Ending poverty and inequality are some of
today’s greatest challenges that the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) aim to overcome. Muslim giving including Zakat, is
one of the largest but most overlooked forms of wealth
transfer to the poor and needy in existence
Muslim Giving at a Glance
“Muslims around the globe contribute billions of dollars to humanitarian causes a year, but their efforts are often poorly organized and not well-known to the world. The World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists is formed to help Muslim donors and nonprofit groups to overcome these obstacles.” The Chronicle of Philanthropy | 2008
