Introductionof
1 Thessalonians
PurposeTo strengthen the Thessalonian Christians in their faith and give them the assurance
of Christ's return
Author Paul the Apostle
AudienceThe Church at Thessalonica, and all
believers everywhere
Date WrittenApproximately A.D. 51 from Corinth: one
of Paul's earliest letters
SettingThe Church at Thessalonica was very
young, having been established only two or three years before this letter was written. The Thessalonian Christians
needed to mature in their faith.
In addition there was a misunderstanding of Christ's second coming-some thought Christ
would return immediately, and thus they were confused when their loved ones died
because they expected Christ to return beforehand. Also, believers were being
persecuted.

Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and
the Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts 15:32-3532 Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened
the brethren with many words. 33 And after they had stayed there for a time,
they were sent back with greetings from
the brethren to the apostles. 34 However, it seemed good to Silas to remain there. 35 Paul and Barnabas also remained in
Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our
prayers,
Colossians 1:3-63 We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always
for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the
saints;
5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel...
Ephesians 6:1818 praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and
supplication for all the saints
3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the
sight of our God and Father,
Romans 15:4-54 For whatever things were written before were
written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might
have hope. 5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one
another, according to Christ Jesus...
Hebrews 6:9-129 But, beloved, we are confident of better
things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. 10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which
you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do
minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full
assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the
promises.
4 knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.
Ephesians 1:3-143 Blessed be the God and Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in
Him before the foundation of the world,
that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to
Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted
in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of
His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in
the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him. 11 In Him
also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the
purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12
that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him you
also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with
the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the
redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
Romans 8:29-3029 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the
image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30
Moreover whom He predestined, these
He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified,
these He also glorified.
1 Peter 2:9-109 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises
of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not
obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
