PAXTON 2/3 Busy bees making Father`s Day gifts.
2/3 have been sightseeing around the world,
investigating oceans and continents and their
countries in Geography. Students are working on
planning, writing and publishing information
reports.

The end of Term 3 is fast approaching and it’s
going to be a busy few weeks in our classroom.
This week we are completing our annual Public
Speaking Competition. The students will complete
their speech in class and the top two speeches from
each year will compete in the school finals from
Monday, 21st September. Good luck everyone! You
have all worked very hard.
This term our whole-class behaviour focus has
been ‘keeping an appropriate noise level’. We have
been chipping away at our goal of 1, 500 Dojo
points for quite some time now but we finally
achieved it this week! We will enjoy our reward at
the end of Week 10 when we have a some spare.
A few weeks ago I asked the students to write
about their dream day at school. The goal of the
task was to clearly describe each part of the day
and to keep it realistic. I was pleasantly surprised
with the similarities to our general daily routines
and the lack of ‘nap time’, which I was expecting!
The most clear and realistic writing will be
crowned the winner and the class will carry out
that person’s dream day at school next Thursday.
Winner/s announced Wednesday, Week 10!
See below Makayla and Sophie looking after our
school! Great job girls.

Cross Country 2020
Despite COVID-19, we
had a wonderful Cross
Country event at school
in which each class
competed in their age
groups. We hope you
enjoyed the videos we
put together as much as we did when making them!
Congratulations to 100% of our students for completing
their races and of course, our age champions below!
Camp Cancellations
Unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Stage 3
Canberra excursion has been cancelled for 2020. The Stage 2
Great Aussie Bush Camp has also been cancelled. We
understand this is very sad news for our students.
Sun Safety and Hygiene
We’ve been enjoying the
lovely spring weather over the
last two weeks and will soon
be sweltering during the Term
4 Paxton summer! Please
remember to encourage your
children to wear hats. During
lunch and recess, students will
need to stay under the COLA if
they don’t have a hat. We are
unable to provide spare hats
due to hygiene. Please ensure your child’s name is on their
hat. With hygiene in mind, it’s also the prime season for
little creepy critters! The holidays is a good time to treat
your children for head lice, ready for the summer months!
Our children are doing a wonderful job in keeping safe by
continuing to wash and sanitise their hands. Please continue
to encourage this by reminding children at home.
Remember, the bubblers are still off and students need to
make sure they bring a water bottle each day. Thank you for
your understanding.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
In the last few weeks, we have been focusing on safety with
property (green tickets) and respect for visitors (blue
tickets). Our students are working towards an end of term
PBL reward next week if they can fill the PBL jar. To
encourage students, this week we gave out ‘Zooper Dooper
tickets for being awesome’, to students who did not appear
in Sentral for minor behaviours. Well done! We have also
introduced yellow and red warning cards to allow students
a chance to correct their behaviours.

School Security Hotline With the holidays coming up, we’d appreciate your support in calling the School Security Hotline on 1300 880 021 if you see anyone in our school grounds. Our GA Kim will be at school on Wednesdays but other than that no one should be on site (except Mrs Clark to feed Paxton). We appreciate your support in this matter.

Ice Blocks are sold everyday at second break for students who may want to purchase one. We sell Zooper Doopers for 50 cents each. All profits are part of the Year 6 fundraising effort.
Mathematics
In maths we are learning about time – in particular months and seasons. The children are learning about when their birthday is, and to name and order the months. As the month changes, we have been talking about what comes next, and linking this to the season we are in and the way the weather changes. We have also been revising fractions. The focus has been has been on consolidating the understanding of a half of an object for and a quarter and eighth of an object. At home, cooking and food preparation are good opportunities to practise this concept eg ‘I can cut your toast in half in triangles OR rectangles.’
Literacy Groups
Literacy groups continue to be a favourite in our class. This is evident each morning when the children excitedly ask ‘Are we having literacy groups today?’ Reading is very much the core of our work in K/1 – thank you for reading with your children at home. Please feel free to see me if you would like to take some extra books home to read with your child over the holidays.
