Peter Pan

HistoryThe stories behind the first movie about “Peter Pan” are so many and we don’t really know which one’s the original. But there’s two of them which’s more known than the others.

Both of them have the same “information” about Peter but with different stories.

Most of them are sad but there’s a version made for younger children on Disney Channel which isn’t.

The name of the author is J.M. Barrie.

James Matthew Barrie, known as J.M. Barrie was born the 9th of May 1860 in Kirremuir, Angus.

He died in June, the 19th 1937.

Barrie was a Brittish (Scottish) author and playwright.

The story was first released in 1904.

“Story 1”When a child has died he comes into the nursery by it’s window to take the child with him beyond the stars to a place called “Neverland”.

Apparently they get their lives back as soon as they’ve arrived.

Peter teaches them how to fly and fight with sword and bows against his enemy Captain Hook and his pirates.

Hook has only got one arm because Peter chopped off

one of his arms and gave it to a hungry crocodile which

has been chasing him ever since.

“Story 2”Peter flies to childerns’ nurseries to take them to Neverland and teaches them how to fly and fight against Hook, as in the first story.

But by the time as the children start to grow up and get older, he kills them because in Neverland it’s against the “rules” to grow up. Either he leaves them in the forest all alone or he kills them himself.

Apart from that part these two stories are almost exactly the same.

In this story Peter sometimes flies to reality, also called London.

He often flies around in silent, looking through people’s windows just to spy on them. One night he flies to the family Darling’s window in the nursery where there’s three children, Wendy, John and Michael laying asleep in their beds.

But he loses his shadow and wendy wakes up and helps him to sew it back on.

He asks her to come with him to Neverland to become a foster mother to the lost boys.

“Story 3” (Also my favorite)

In Neverland Wendy and her brothers fight with pirates and meet Indians.

But Captain Hook has been told by Tinkerbell (Peter pan’s fairy) what Peter’s weak point is. His feelings for Wendy.

PersonalityPeter is a young, clever boy who doesn’t want to grow up, ever.

He seems to have problems with sharing his feelings, in this case to admit that he’s in love with Wendy.

He’s very brave and he always make sure that everyone’s okay, at least the people he care about.

He’s blonde and curly with blue eyes, skinny and regular length.

He’s wearing clothes which looks like their made of twigs and leaves and he looks quite dirty.

He doesn’t really have any power,

but with Tinkerbell’s fairy dust he can fly and

that’s how Wendy, John and Michael can fly

too.

When? There are soooo many different movies about Peter Pan,

there’s one from 1991, one from 2003, 2004, 2008, 2014 and 2015.

I bet there’s a hundred more!

The story was written 1904 but the first movie was released 1954 and most of the movies, (at least those which aren’t animated) take place in the early 90’s.

I don’t like the new, modern, animated movies about Peter Pan.

The first ones are more like “history” and so much better!

But probably they released a lot of animated new movies of the story because the older ones are maybe too hard for children to understand (of course it depends in which age they are, I’m thinking maybe 3-4).

Good/evil?I would call Peter a hero even though he kills the lost boys in some of the stories because that’s all he has ever known, it’s totally natural for him and he can’t really help it because no one has ever told him it’s wrong.

In the old stories he’s not killing anyone or kidnapping kids from their nurseries, he’s just taking them on an adventure, he’s doing them a favor.

Goals?Peter only has one goal in life, to kill Captain Hook. Besides that he doesn’t have any goals, he’s just taking the children to Neverland to give them something to remember.

See you in Neverland!
