Photography Technique Examples

Annie Leibrovitz photography Aperture approx. – f/5.8

Annie Leibrovitz Aperture approx. – f/ 2.8 I believe this is of a low aperture as the background is completely out of focus and we cannot see beyond the model.

Short depth of field

A short depth of field creates a main focus in a picture, which is usually a small amount, and the rest is blurred and out of focus.

Vogue Paris September 2010 shot by Mert & MarcusAperture approx. : f/2.8

Mario Testino, Dior Fall 2012Aperture f/32I believe this has a high aperture as everything is in focus and the background is in the distance yet clear and in focus.

Tim walker, W magazine, December 2012Aperture approx. – f/22

Long Depth Of Field

Unknown photographer, shutter speed approx. – 1/4 http://katerinapanayi.blogspot.co.uk/2011/03/motion-blur-photography.html

Blurred Movement

Mario Testino, Michael Kors Fall 2012 campaignShutter Speed approx. – 1/250

Here, we can see that a high shutter speed is used because the camera is capturing her hair blowing in the wind, and we can see the strands of hair are in focus.

Leading Lines

The street in the background provides lines that lead the eye all the way down.
