Photography Tips for Social Media and

WebsitesSami Mastrario

Owner and photographer at SamiM Photography

Your subject isn’t boring!

• What is everyday to you is completely foreign to your followers

• Give behind-the-scenes access to followers they can’t usually get and don’t be afraid to be personable

The rule of thirds

• Also, the “Rule of Odds”• Photos with odd numbers

of elements are more interesting and pleasing to the eye.

Do not use phone zoom function

• Shaky and blurry images

• Pixelation especially while editing

Stabilize

• Use tripod if possible

• Realistically, prop on a fence post, table, or other available surface

Outdoor Lighting

• The Golden Hour – typically an hour before sunset!

• Use the website https://www.timeanddate.comto get an idea of when sunset is on a particular date

• Don’t be afraid of bright sunlight, though! Be aware of your shadows and your subject.

Tap to focus

• Adjust focus/lighting balance by tapping on the subject

Try different angles

• Consider top down (lay flat photos), portrait, or landscape

• Don’t be afraid to get down (on the ground)

• Take the same photo from different positions if you can

Snap action shots by using the burst function

Photo Styling

• Easier for the “off season” to have valuable content

• Showcase products, plans for updates, etc.

Hashtags are good

• #inthesecondcomment

• #ReadThemOutLoud• Don’t let #CowboysUK become #cowboysuk

(Get it? Cowboys suck!)

• #SamiMPhotography and #SamiMAdventures• #SamiMChildren or #SamiMStudio

Shameless plug for GAA#exploregeorgiafarms

#Georgiagrown#exploreGeorgia

Hashtags for Reposting

• Ask your visitors to hashtag for permission to repost

Apps are your friends

• Boomerang- creates loop video

• Ripl- creates short videos

• VSCO photo editor

• Over- adds text

• Look Brdy- makes bird sounds to get kids and animals to look at camera.
