Welcome!

Band Hall Guidelines

• Non-Band members NOT ALLOWED in Band Hall

• Take instrument home EVERYDAY

• Never handle any equipment but your own

• Keep a name tag on your instrument & combination lock on locker

• If rehearsals are in progress, remain quiet

• Food, gum or drinks NOT ALLOWED in Band Hall

• Never stay in the BH if a teacher is not present

• Refer to the board each day for instructions

• DO NOT WRITE OR ERASE the board

Daily Class Rules

• Bring materials to class

• Be courteous, respectful, attentive and ready to work!

• Don’t touch copy machine, metronomes, tuners, percussion or sound and recording equipment!

Lockers

• Purchase your own combination lock

• Give combination to directors

• Large instruments stored in instrument room – No locks necessary

MUSIC BINDER

• Take care of the music and binder

• Only use pencil (not erasable pen) when marking music

• Binders are to be put away at end of every rehearsal

Participation/Eligibility

• Co-curricular activities are an extension of the classroom in which participation is graded; this includes band activities such as concerts and rehearsals where students are required to participate.

Participation/Eligibility

• Performance at contests, festivals, band trips, and athletic events is considered extra-curricular and is subject to eligibility rules. Participation in extra-curricular activities is based on eligibility requirements set by the State

Board of Education. Students must maintain an average of 70 or above in all classes each reporting period to remain eligible to participate.

Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Uniforms

• Boys-black dress pants, white tux shirt, black socks, formal dress shoes (NO TENNIS SHOES) & bow tie (provided by school)

• Girls-black formal dress (provided by school-rental fee $20), dress shoes

Beginners Concert Attire

• Band shirt (purchased from band)

• Blue jeans (no holes)

• Tennis shoes

BAND

Practice records• Practice EVERYDAY!• Practice Record for

grade each week• Due 1st day of week• Parent signature

required each week

Booster Club• We are very excited to have our very first

Booster Club! Officers were elected last school year. Membership in this excellent group helps the band program immensely. Please become a member!

Fees & Financial Matters-6TH Grade

• Instructional fee=$25.00

• Included in this fee is the following:– Instructional Fee, $10

• Binder• Pencil pouch• Page protectors• Educational material, music

– Band T-shirt, $15

Fees 7th & 8th Grade GIRLS

• BAND FEE=$40 Included in this fee is the following:– Instructional Fee, $10

• Binder• Pencil pouch• Page protectors• Educational material,

music

– Uniform rental fee, $15– Band T-shirt, $15

• Deduct this portion if planning to use last years band shirt

Fees7th & 8th Grade BOYS

• Fee=$35. Included in this fee is the following:– Instructional Fee, $10

• Binder• Pencil pouch• Page protectors• Educational material, music

– Uniform Rental Fee, $10 (Cummerbund & tie)– Band T-shirt, $15

• Deduct this portion if planning to use last years band shirt

School Owned instruments

• Rental Fee $100• Must remain in proper

working condition• Repairs and

maintenance is students’ responsibility

Participation is CRITICAL to the success of the program!

• Lessons taught by professional teachers

• Contracted by NISD• HIGHLY

RECOMMENDED!!• Continued interest in

band

• Scheduled during the school day or before & after school

• Very beneficial to all levels of players

FUNDRAISERS

• With today’s budget realities, fundraising has become a necessity.

• Pays for contest fees, equipment, scholarships, bus costs and clinicians, etc.

• We are sensitive to the inconvenience of fundraisers• We limit our fundraising to one brochure sale per year.• Many busy families choose to make a donation instead

of participating. • Suggested donation amount is $40.00• Students will be invited to a Fundraiser Costume Party if

they participate with a donation or sell a certain amount of items TBD.

Band Placement / Auditions

• Auditions to be held at end of school year

• Ability Based• Wind Ensemble=1st

Band=2nd band

• Audition music will be given prior to auditions

• Results will be posted upon completion

• Private Lesson are incredibly helpful !!!

Concert & Rehearsals

• Beginners play 3 Concerts

• Before or afterschool rehearsals prior to concerts-GRADED

• Attendance is REQUIRED & GRADED

• Plan ahead-AVOID conflicts

• Rehearsals =1 test grade

• Performance attendance, punctuality & behavior=2 test grades

• Emergency? Call us & bring written note!!!!

Concert Etiquette

• Turn off cells• No whistling or loud

disruptive clapping• No playing prior to

concert• Please take crying

children to hall
