Placing ILL Requests via ILL Module

May 2008

Step 1: Using WorldCat to find Key Information Regarding your Item

Go to WorldCat Website (www.worldcat.org)

Next, search for your item…

Remember to choose the edition/format you want (book, cd, latest edition, etc.) …If you want an audio form of the book, the edition you choose should, in fact, be in audio...

For a Book, you will need the following information from WorldCat (which you can copy and paste into the ILL Module in a bit):– Author– Title– Publication Place– Publication Date– ISBN of the EDITION you want... The ISBN you

want to use should be a 10-digit number. Use the "Edition" tab in WorldCat to see some of the options available for the particular item.

For a _____, you will need the following information from WorldCat (which you can copy and paste into the ILL Module in a bit):– _____– _____– _____ – ISBN of the EDITION you want... The ISBN you want to use

Step 2: Create a "Virtual Record" in Millennium

Open ILL Module (Use Millennium Drop Menu "Go", then choose "Millennium Control Bar", then choose the ILL icon which is in 2nd Row, 1st Column)

Next, choose the "Enter Requests" Icon.

Enter Patron's Barcode, or search by Name (using drop menu)

Choose the type of material (i.e., Book, etc.)

Select "Need By" date; typically this would be 30 days from the date you are creating this virtual record

Next, type or copy and paste (from WorldCat) the Author's name

– FORMAT = Lastname, Firstname

Next, type or copy and paste (from WorldCat) the Title

Next, type the Publishing Place and Date/Year

– FORMAT = Place, Year

Next, for the "Cited In" field, type: WorldCat

Next, for the "Other Info" field, type: pickup at ___ (MAI, CTR, etc.)

Next, for the "Limit charges to" field, type the amount the patron is willing to pay for this item (typically, this is "0")

Next, for the ISBN field, type of copy and paste (from WorldCat) the 10-Digit ISBN number for the particular edition you wish to request.

SAVE!!!!!

YOU HAVE CREATED A VIRTUAL RECORD!

IT IS NOW UNDER THE "NEW" ICON IN THE ILL MODULE.

Step 3: Take a look at your "Virtual Record" your created in Millennium

Under the "New" icon in the ILL Module, double-click on the "Virtual Record" you want to look at. It should look a lot like the next slide:

Step 4: Place the Request via OCLC/FirstSearch

CAUTION: ATTEMPT ONLY IF YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN PERMISSION TO DO SO

Under the "New" icon in the ILL Module, double-click on the "Virtual Record" you are ready to request.

In the upper left-hand corner, click on the "Acquire" icon

At the top of the box that pops up, it says "Please select the acquisition method to use". – Choose "OCLC direct ILL to profile"

You have now activated a pop-up screen. Enter as follows:

– Domain Name/IP: isoill.oclc.org– Port: (leave alone--this will be filled in already)– Symbol: ISO– Authorization Code: 100154418– Password: druisl

Next, a calendar screen will pop up. CLICK ON FINISH.

You should now have a confirmation screen. Click on the "x" to get out of this screen.

YOU HAVE PLACED THE HOLD VIA OCLC/FirstSearch! IT IS NOW UNDER THE "PENDING" ICON IN THE ILL MODULE.
