LOCATION
• Earth is the third planet from the Sun beyond Mercury and Venus
• Located in terms of the speed of light the asteroid belt is relatively close to earth, just past Mars.
• The Solar system is located on the outer rim of the milky way galaxy.

Each of those dots are a galaxy!
Planetary History
• Earth began as nothing. Earth was made from dust, gas, and rocks left over from the sun’s formation.
• It took Approximately 10 to 20 million years to form.
• It began as a molten rocky lava filled wasteland.
Earth was believed to look similar to the image below, (complements of Google) almost identical to Venus today!
Present State
• Earth is currently home to many different species of animal.
• The current population of earth is believed to be: 6,896,900,000 people.
Here is a picture of the current position of the platesIn the world. The 7 major plates are the : African Plate,The Antarctic Plate, The Indo-Australian Plate, The EurasianPlate, The North American Plate, The South American Plate, and the Pacific Plate.
Composition
• The Earth is comprised of four layers.• The Layers are: The Crust, The Mantle, The
Outer core, and The Inner Core.• The Crust is a solid layer of dry land and ocean
floor between the mantle.• The Mantle makes up 67% of earth’s mass.
These are the Earth’s Layers. The abbreviations stand for elements.
Element Magnesium Iron Aluminum Silicon Oxygen Sulfur
Symbol Mg Fe Al Si O S
FAST FACT
• Earth is Eight light minutes† away from the sun.
• Eight light minutes is equal to 93,000,000,000 miles.
† A Light minute is how far light travels in a minute.
Atmosphere
• The Earth’s atmosphere is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% other gases.
• The average atmospheric pressure at sea level is about 1 atmosphere (atm) = 101.3 kPa (kilopascals) = 14.7 psi (pounds per square inch).
Future
One extremely popular theory of the future of the earth is the sun destroying it. When the sun reaches 10 billion years of age it is expected to explode. One other theory is that global warming will deteriorate to ozone layer, and if the ozone layer is gone, we will die of sunburn!
Our last fast fact…
• Eventually, earth will shrink because of the sun, and it will become a comet. Maybe aliens will view us in their skies.
