Abstract•The ‘change’ in any field is common and it is very quick and rapid in case of Technological field•To the industries it is crucial because of ‘competition’ and ‘cost’ involved in it.•The LASER production and its ‘control require’ very necessary adoption to new technology. •The use of anlogue circuits in this LCU is not much of good productivity•So we use plc in this control unit instead of anlogue circuits.

IntroductionThe LCU is very important part in the accurate production

of LASER. Laser control unit (LCU) is a PLC based system used to

monitor & control 9 kHz Pulsed Power Supply system for generating high voltage pulses for short duration.

The LCU is connected to Distribution unit through 52 Pin Connector.

LCU is interfaced with SMPS using 3 FC to SMA patch cords for SMPS O/P Voltage, Current and Voltage Setting.

Connexium Transceiver is used to convert Electrical signal to optical signal.

Existing System

FIG: An Example of an Analague Circuit

The LASER Control Unit (LCU) is a very high complex control unit where it has to control several parameters very carefully

The use of advanced technology devices is very important according to the changes in the field.

The normal Analogue Circuits and Relays cannot be changed as required.

DisadvantagesSize of analogue circuits is large.Cannot with stand in harsh conditions such as vibrations,

temperature, humidity and noise.Once fabricated changes cannot be made much.Programming cannot be done.Replacement with new ones requires more time and

money

Proposed System

The proposed system is the use of PLC’s in the automation technology instead of ANALOGUE CIRCUITS

WHAT IS PLC?A Programmable Logic Controller, PLC or Programmable

Controller is a digital computer used for automation of electromechanical processes, such as control of machinery on factory .

A PLC is an example of a hard real time system

PLC are programmed using languages like Ladder Logic, Functional Block Diagram, e.t.c.,

The capabilities of some modern plc’s is equivalent to desktop computers.

PLC applications are typically highly customized systems.

The cost of a packaged PLC is low compared to the cost of a specific custom-built controller design.

Future Enhancement Since the PLC’s are mainly used in applications because

of it’s ability to adopt the new technology and to make changes in future. The improvement to be done in LCU for further applications can be easily done along with changes for PLC.

Conclusion Even though the PLC’s are used mainly in industries and

in customized applications such as LCU, the potential of PLC is very high that it may find its place in future in all basic needs and home appliances.
