GaAs/GaN MMIC SiC Microwave/mmWave SMT Packaging

Our experience includes front-end ICs for mmWave 5G,broadband MMICs for ESM,receiver, transmitter and PA ICsfor point to point microwavelinks and GaN PAs for bothcommercial and defence app-lications.We use industry-leadingCAD software for our designsand have our own in-house testlab for evaluation of both bare-die (RFOW) and packagedMMICs.

Company Overview

PRFI’s design services are usedby industry leading IC vendors.National Semiconductor usedour design services to helpcreate an innovative world classtransceiver design that has soldin excess of 1 billion units. PRFIhas also worked on the designand packaging of mmWave ICsfor 5G applications using bulkCMOS.

Project Examples

Example projects include: GaNPA modules from L-band to X-band at power levels to 200W,the design and supply of an 8 to18GHz, fast switching, low noisesynthesiser; a fast switching(<10ns) 200W X-band solid-state PA for a marine radarapplication, high power amplifiersand signal sources for spaceapplications, and a dual-channel 2to 18GHz receiver for ESM.

We have extensive experience ofSMT packaging to mmWavefrequencies. This includes the useof standard plastic overmouldpackages with custom designedlead-frames, the use of COTSceramic and open-moulded plas-tic packages and the design of fullcustom laminate and ceramicpackages. We have also devel-oped SMT compatible multi-chipmodules (MCMs) and Antenna-in-Package (AiP) solutions.
