Pop Up Garden
You will need:
Copies of the Pop Up Garden template
Textas or coloured pencils
Glue stick
Scissors
Coloured paper
Thin cardboard (if you don’t have a flat piece of cardboard you could use a
heavy paper, a tissue box, cereal box or even a greeting card)
Any additional craft materials you have at home to decorate such as pom
poms, sequins or stickers
Step 1
Print out a few copies of the garden
template and colour in. We
recommend printing off a few of each
so you have lots of pieces to work with
when you build your garden.
Step 2
Cut out all your pieces.
Produced by Hazelhurst’s Public Programs & Education team, 2020
Step 3
Grab some sheets of coloured paper
and thin cardboard. You will need to
choose one colour for the ground and
one for the sky. We are using green
and blue, but you can use any colours
you like.
Fold your piece of cardboard in half as
well as the piece of coloured paper
you will use for the ground / grass. If
you don’t have a cardboard, you can
use thick paper, cut into a finished
tissue or cereal box, or use a greeting
card as the base for your garden.
Step 4
With your folded coloured piece of paper, cut sections into it. Open your paper
and pop out the cut sections so they stick out. Place glue on the top and bottom
edge of the paper and stick to your cardboard. Use the same colour to cover the
cardboard for the grass and your other colour to cover the top part of the
cardboard for the sky.
Step 5
Time to decorate and build your garden! Bring all your coloured in pieces and
start to arrange them onto your base. When you are happy with where things are
placed, glue them down. For any bigger pieces like the house or fence, we cut a
strip of cardboard and folded the edges to add extra support and help them
stand up nicely.
Step 6
Add any final touches such as a name for your garden, extra decorations you might
have at home or even some of your own drawings. Be as creative as you like!
