How to Open Source Your Hardware?

Open source hardware (oshw) is hardware whose design is made publicly available so that anyone can study, modify, distribute, make,

and sell the design or hardware based on that design.

1. Publish your design-files (like building plans, software, cad-files, bill of materials etc.)

2. Use data formats that others can easily view and edit. Prefer open formats and open design tools, or at least cheap & accessible alternatives.

3. Use free culture licenses like the Creative Commons Attribution License. Avoid licenses with „Non Commercial“ clauses.

4. Use wherever possible in your design readily-available componentsand materials as well as standard processes, open infrastructures and unrestricted content.

5. Spread it! Mark your files prominently as open-source hardware. And make your work easy to find online, promote it.
