How a Bill Becomes a Law

START

A bill starts out as an…

…idea from a citizen, who notifies their congressman.

…idea from a newspaper that a congressman reads.

The congressman then…

…writes the bill and presents it to Congress.

…writes the bill and sends it into the local newspaper.

Then the bill……goes to committee.

…is presented by the congressman who wrote it.

The committee then decides…

…to present the bill favorably, and it moves forward.

…they don’t like it, and write a different bill that they like better.

Then the bill goes…

…to the Supreme Court for approval.

…to the House of Representatives for a vote.

Once the House votes yes, the bill goes to…

…the President of the United States to be signed.

…the Senate, and back into committee.

Once the Senate committee presents the bill favorably, the bill…

…is voted on by the Senate.

…is signed by the President.

Once the Senate votes yes, the bill goes…

…goes back to the House of Representatives.

…goes to the White House.

Once the bill is in the White House, the President…

…signs it into law.

…throws it in the garbage.
