The module

• Part one of a two part module

Designed to give you an opportunity to complete a major project

• Part one is about planning - part two is about the actual production of your project

Most of the module is conducted through individual tutorials

Aims of the module

• To further develop students’ skills of research, time-management and self-assessment through practical work

To give students an opportunity to produce an individual creative piece of work

• To enable students with the inclination, interest and commitment to pursue educational and training opportunities in practical work after graduation

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this modules students will be able to:

•Demonstrate an ability to self-motivate and self-assess

•Demonstrate more advanced skills in one of: screenwriting, video production, radio production or website design.

Demonstrate skills of research, time-management and self-assessment through practical work

Assessments

• Pitch

25%of module mark

• Due on Tuesday 1st November

• Treatment

75% of module mark

• Due on Tuesday 13th December

The pitch

Think of it as a ‘sales brochure’

•Should contain• Information on the subject of the project• Details of the intended audience

Information about the ‘look’ of the project• A timetable for the production

Details of the viability of the project

The pitch

• Equivalent of about 1000 words

• Need not take the form of an essay

Assessment criteria

• Demonstrate an ability to convey, in a precise form, plans and ideas

• Demonstrate the ability to realistically judge what is possible with time and resource constraints

The treatment

• A detailed description of what the project will contain and look like

Details of shots, content, style music etc.

• Details of locations, permissions

• Crewing, support, assistance

• Restate audience and viability

The treatment

• Equivalent of about 1500 words

• PLUS test product - shots, audio, web pages, site design

The project

• Can take any form agreed between you and the tutor

Should be non-fiction (open to negotiation)

• Do not be over ambitious

Production

• Start early

All projects must be ‘green lit’

• Be aware of ethical issues

• Workshops will be arranged for those who require skills in particular areas
