Outline

Make the 1st or 2nd slide an outline (contents or

objective) of the presentation

– Example: previous slide

Follow the order of the outline for the rest of

the presentation

Place only main points on the outline slide

– Example: Use the titles of each slide as main points

7

Slide Structure – Good

Use 1-2 slides per minute of your

presentation

Write in bullet form, not complete sentences

Include 4-5 points per slide

Avoid lengthy sentences

Use key words and phrases only

8

Slide Structure - Bad

This page contains too many words for a presentation slide. It is not written in bullets (●) form, making it difficult both for the audience to read and for the presenter to present each point. Although there are exactly the same number of points on this slide as the previous slide, it looks much more complicated. In short, the audience will spend too much time trying to read this paragraph instead of listening to the presenter.

9

Slide Structure – Good

Show one point at a time:

– Will help audience concentrate on what the

presenter is saying

– Will prevent audience from reading ahead

– Dim after animation

– Will help to keep the presentation focused

– Use Masters for consistency and to save time

Ribbon: Animations ->

Custom Animation -> right click ->

Effect Options … Effect Tab:

After Animation ->

choose color or effect

Not bright, Faint,

Soft, Weak

10

Slide Structure - Bad

Do not use distracting animation

Do not go overboard with the animation

Be consistent with the animation that used

11

Fonts - Good

This is 18-points

Use at least an 18-point font

Use different size fonts for main points and secondary points

– this font is 24-point, the main point font is

28-point, and the title font is 36-point

Use a standard font like Times New Roman or Arial

12

Fonts - Bad

If you use a small font, your audience won’t be able to read what you have written

CAPITALIZE ONLY WHEN NECESSARY. IT

IS DIFFICULT TO READ

Capitalize Each Word in Title

Don’t use a complicated font

Don’t use a complicated font

13

Colour - Good

Use a colour of font that contrasts sharply with

the background

– Example: blue font on white background

Use colour to reinforce the logic of your

structure

– Example: light blue title and dark blue text

Use colour to emphasize a point

– But only use this occasionally

14

Colour - Bad

Using a font colour that does not contrast with the background colour is hard to read

Using colour for decoration is distracting and annoying

Using a different colour for each point is unnecessary

– Using a different colour for secondary points is also unnecessary

Trying to be creative can also be bad

15

Background - Good

Use backgrounds such as this one that

are attractive but simple

Use backgrounds which are light

Use the same background consistently

throughout the presentation

KISS: Keep It Straight and Simple

Background – Bad

Avoid backgrounds that are distracting or

difficult to read from

Always be consistent with the background that

you use

17

Graphs - Good

Use graphs rather than just charts and words

– Images are key elements of every presentation

– A picture can say more than a thousand words

– Data in graphs is easier to comprehend & retain

than is raw data

– Trends are easier to visualize in graph form

Always title your graphs

Picture, imagine,

see in your mind's eye

18

Graphs - Bad

Shading is distracting

Spelling And Grammar

Proof your slides for:

– spellling mistakez

– the use of of repeated words

– grammatical errors you might has make

then have someone else check the

presentation!

What do they expect?

What will be interesting to them?

23

Keep The Audience In Mind (2/2)

What can you teach them?

What will keep them focused?

essentials.

and follow the tips in this presentation

inside out.

Speak with confidence – loud and clear.

Don’t speak too fast.

Maintain eye contact with the audience.

25

26

Conclusion

– The audience is likely to remember the last words

Use a conclusion slide to:

– Summarize the main points of your presentation

– Suggest future presentation or trends

27

Questions??

End your presentation with a simple question

slide to:

– Invite your audience to ask questions

– Provide a visual aid during question period

– Avoid ending a presentation abruptly

Suddenly,

unexpectedly

28

Final Tips

1. Slide Transitions And Sound EffectsMay distracts the audience

2. Standard ClipartIt shows a lack of creativity, use your own

3. Presentation TemplatesCreate your own; your company logo in a corner of the screen

4. Text-Heavy SlidesLimit your slides to five lines of text;use words and phrases to make your points
