Private Hart (9837), serving with the 6th Lincolnshire Regiment, was wounded inAugust 1915 in the Dardanelles and died of his wounds in hospital in Leeds onthe 9th December 1915.

Harry was born at Coddington, near Newark, in 1897 the son of William andSelena Hart. His father was a maltster and by 1911 thefamily had moved to Market Rasen and Harry was amaltster's labourer and his father was a malt kiln manager.

Harry enlisted in August 1914 and in 1915 his regiment wasfighting in the Gallipoli campaign. On 12th August Harrywas seriously wounded by shrapnel and was brought backto GB. His wounds would have permanently crippled himbut while in hospital in Leeds on 9th December he died.

Harry was buried in Market Rasen on 12th

December.reported:“The hearse was preceded by a smallcontingent of local soldiers and BoyScouts under the command of Lt IvoSmith and Scoutmaster A B Parkinson,the scouts marching with reversed staves.The bearers were L/Cpl Horace Blow, RFA,L/Cpl F Castle, Lincolnshire, Pte J Cressey,Lincolnshire Territorials and Pte A WestNorthumberland Fusiliers”There was a large crowd in the cemeteryand there were wreaths from the hospitalnurses, his mates from the malt kiln, andhis chums from the hospital.

Harry was not quite19 when he died.
