Screen grabs – front cover

This is the picture I chose to be the main image for the front cover of my Indie music magazine. As you can see the image has direct address and is also very striking and unusual so attracts the target audiences attention straight away.

I chose the title AIM (All Indie Music) and put it on my background image by using the text tool on Photoshop.

I then selected the title and clicked on the ‘Fx’ button below where the layers of my production are situated.

I then chose the ‘Bevel and Emboss’ effect for my magazine title, as it stands out when you first look at my front cover.

After choosing the Bevel and Emboss effect I had to decide the depth and size of the effect on the title.

After adding the effects to my title this is what it finally looked like when it was finished.

By using the text tool on Photoshop I added my Positioning Statement underneath my Masthead. I made the text all in capital letters to make it clear and standout.

Here, I again used the text tool on Photoshop to add the Main Coverline to my front cover. I chose the colour red so that it would stand out against the main image and it also anchored to the same colour as the masthead.

After I had positioned my Main Coverline, underneath I added the Coverline for that specific article. I again used the text tool on Photoshop to do this.

I then added each of the cover lines to my front cover in the same red that I had used for my main cover line.

Then added the smaller cover lines with extra information about the article underneath the other cover lines. These are in white so they are different to the above cover line.

I repeated this step for all of the 5 cover lines that are on my front cover.

To add the Issue number, date and price to my front cover. To do this I used the text tool in Photoshop and to turn it upright used the rotation button that’s found on the frame around the text.

To make this circle on my front cover I used the shape tool on Photoshop, then I positioned it where it was meant to be on the cover and filled it in the colour black.

After I had created the black circle on my front cover. I used the text tool again to add the word ‘Exclusive’ and chose the red because it stands out against the black background and follows the colour scheme of my magazine.

After I added the word ‘Exclusive’ for the rest of the title for the article I added ‘Florence and the Machine’ this is what the article is about. To make it look original I used white as the font colour and it also so stood out on the black background jus like the red font.

To import the barcode onto my work I had to first open the picture into a separate Photoshop document, crop it and then save it as a JPEG so that I would be able to import it

This is the final look of the Front cover to the Indie Music magazine I created.
