Volunteer Coordinator

With so many coordinators, how come we’re so

uncoordinated?

A dozen board members

A dozen coordinators

(find the lines of accountability)

So it's no surprisethat we lack

So it's no surprisethat we lack

Executive Leadership

So it's no surprisethat we lack

Executive Leadership(charged with doing things)

(bringing everyone along with you)

Clarity.

Clarity. We know what we're doing. We know who will do it.Others know how they can help.

And the

Executive Directormakes sure it all gets doneby bringing everyone along in fulfillingthe mission.

Proposal 1.

To approve the enclosedorganizational structure.

So a lot is riding on thisExecutive Director

It's almost a full-time job.

It's almost a full-time job.

(it should be one)

Retention

And we need to ensure there's

and

Accountability

Retention

And we need to ensure there's

and

Accountability

So it ought to be a paid position.

Meanwhile

We do have a paid positionwhere someone needs to be herea lot of the timebut doesn't have a lot to do.

Internship ProgramDirector

Paid already.Has to be at the center but doesn't have much to do.

Internship ProgramDirector

Paid already.Has to be at the center but doesn't have much to do.

ExecutiveDirector

Needs to be paid.Has a lot to do.

We can do it.

$11,700

We can do it.

$150 $300 $450 $600 $750 $900 $1,050 $1,200 $1,350 $1,500 $1,650 $1,800

We can do it.

$150 $300 $450 $600 $750 $900 $1,050 $1,200 $1,350 $1,500 $1,650 $1,800

12-month contract for $11,700starting at $150 for August

increasing by $150 each monthup to $1,800 for July

AffordableNo more than a $150 additional hit each month

Secure for the EDAgreement is clear that money is coming

Secure for CGIncreasing pay is an incentive to stay

And don't forget

Football

Football

It nets about $2,200August - November

$ 150300450600

+ 750$2,250

The ED would bepaid $2,250August - December

$ 150300450600

+ 750$2,250

The ED would bepaid $2,250August - December

That's a 5-month head start.

We've had three seasonsof nearly free cash

But we've neverused it strategically.

Let's start now.

Proposal 2.

To retain a contractor formanagement servicesincluding the roles ofExecutive Director andInternship Program Director.

How do we find someonecapable of handling this zooqualified to direct the internship programand willing to be flexible to accommodate our limited resources?

Withoffice management experienceCommon Ground experienceskill at managing volunteersand knowledge of the management support organization (MSO) field?

I'd like to suggest

Jenna Moon

I'd like to suggest

Jenna MoonShe has- managed offices both at Common Ground and at UGA and Emmanuel College- the most day-to-day experience at Common Ground of anyone- started the internship program from scratch- commitment to Common Ground and the capacity-building field- vision of the impact that community-based MSOs like Common Ground can have

I'd like to suggest

Jenna MoonWe've already invested in her by- sending her to the Alliance for Nonprofit Management conference—three intensive days of workshops on advanced manage- ment and capacity-building topics as well as interaction with leaders from MSOs, funders, and consultants from across the country- having her direct the internship program, paid for by a grant she co-wrote- my mentoring over the past year

And she's not on the Board

And she's not on the Board

(why does that matter?)

Bringing a fresh perspectiveallows the Board to focus on governance andthe Executive Director to focus on execution.

Having the roles separatehelps the relationship be professional andnot appear to be self-serving

If something does go wrongthe relationship can be ended without feelinglike you're booting a good friend

This is a time of transition.

This is a time of transition.

I urge you to seize this opportunityto transform this organization

A lot of things are happening at once. The departure of Jenna DelVentura and me.The growth of our programs. And a little game that drives the economy around here.

We can turn this chaos into something productive. You all are the most capable Board we've ever had and I have full faith you can guide us forward. In partnership with Jenna Moon, you can get it all done.

Proposal 3.

To retain Jenna Moon as theaforementioned managementservices contractor.

I'm committed to spending whatever time is needed to get this all done.

Please call me at 706-254-1524 or e-mail andrew@commongroundathens.orgwith any questions or concerns.

Many of the enclosed job descriptions wereedited from the work of Beth! Orcutt, mypredecessor in doing too much around here.

Thanks also to Mike Thomas, who assistedme in cross-referencing the team tasks anddoing general editing.
