signal sequences • First by Gunter Blobel (1970) ,won the Nobel Prize (1999) for his

work on protein targeting.• Directs a protein to its appropriate location after synthesis.• Signals vary from 13 to 36 amino acid residues. a. About 10 to 15 hydrophobic amino acid residues. b. One or more positively charged residues near N-terminus. c. A short cleavage sequence often including(polar A.A) Ala.
